The Canadiens selected Ikonen in the second round - 58th overall - at the NHL Draft in Chicago this past June.
Ikonen served as assistant captain and played a key role in helping Finland claim a silver medal at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship in Slovakia in April, finishing tied for fourth in tournament scoring with eight points (4G, 4A) in seven games.
This year's edition of the World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Buffalo, NY from December 26 - January 5.
