MONTREAL – Summer is just one week away, but talk of the 2016-17 campaign has already begun.
Get your markers out and circle Monday, September 26 on your calendars. That’s when you’ll have the chance to see Canadiens prospects and roster players alike open pre-season play with a tilt against the New Jersey Devils at the Bell Centre. Then, Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals will be in town the next day.
The remainder of the Canadiens’ pre-season schedule features a series of five consecutive rivalry games against the Senators, Maple Leafs and Bruins.
A home-and-home series against the Senators is on tap first. The two teams will play in Montreal on Thursday, September 29 before playing in Ottawa on Saturday, October 1 in the afternoon. Once those games are in the books, the final week of preparation for Michel Therrien’s troops will begin.
The Canadiens will play at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday, October 2 before heading to Quebec City to take on the Bruins at the Videotron Center on Tuesday, October 4.
The Canadiens’ pre-season calendar wraps up on Thursday, October 6 when Mike Babcock’s contingent will be in Montreal. It will mark the final opportunity for hopefuls to make their mark and earn a spot on the opening-night roster with the season scheduled to get going one week later.
