Habs re-sign Hossa

The younger brother of Senators' all-star Marian Hossa, Marcel suited up for his native Slovakia at the 2005 World Hockey Championships in Austria.


MONTREAL - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Monday the signing of forward Marcel Hossa for the 2005-06 season. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Hossa, 23, played for Mora in the Sweden Hockey League in 2004-05 where he recorded 24 points (18 goals, six assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 48 games. The Ilava, Slovakia native ranked fifth on the Hamilton Bulldogs' scoring list with 40 points in 57 games in 2003-04 (18 goals, 22 assists). He also played in 15 games with the Canadiens that year (one goal, one assist).

The Canadiens' first-round selection (16th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Hossa has played in 59 career regular season games since the 2001-02 season. He registered 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) and 24 penalty minutes.
