Habs Notebook - March 17, 2009

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
In today's Habs Notebook, Guillaume Latendresse won't have his hair flowing in the wind in his return, one Alex hands the TV remote over to another and why the Habs won't be cuddling up to any pets.

Gui gets the go-ahead

After missing 19 games while recovering from a shoulder injury, a freshly buzz-cut Guillaume Latendresse will make his return tonight against the Rangers.

“It’s been a good month and a half that I’ve been waiting for this day.  I feel good, I feel rested. Obviously there will be a few nerves before the game but I think it’ll be a good line with Saku, Andrei and I. I’ve done well playing with Saku before.”

From one Alex to another

First Jaroslav Halak, then Alex Kovalev. Recovered from his bout with a flu bug, Kovalev will be back in action, skating alongside Maxim Lapierre and Christopher Higgins.  But, while Kovalev is good to go, the virus would appear to be fond of the name Alex lately, with Alex Tanguay becoming the latest spectator as a result.

“Alex came here, did a few exercises and then went home,” said Bob Gainey. “We made our lines and delegated some tasks and responsibilities at yesterday’s practice, so everyone knows what they need to do. We’ll get Alex back in when he’s 100%.  I’d rather avoid last-minute decisions because the players have left the practice facility knowing what they have to do to lead us to a win tonight against the Rangers.”

Let sleeping dogs lie

Sean Avery has suited up for six games since returning to the Rangers and the NHL but he won’t find any Hab bringing him his slippers if he opts for words over hockey skills to help lead his team to a win.  Josh Gorges will be the first to ensure it.

“I’m not surprised he’s back in the league,” admitted the Canadiens’ rearguard. “He’s got talent and he’s proven that. As a defenseman, if he tries to bark, we just have to ignore it and let him be. He wants us to retaliate to get us off our game, but that won’t happen.
