Habs Notebook - Dec. 9, 2008

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
Hey, I know you!: After spending two seasons in Calgary, Alex Tanguay will face his former teammates tonight for the first time since he was traded to Montreal back in June.  While there’s certain to be plenty of talk about his first game against the Flames, the skilled winger has no intention of stealing the spotlight.

“Now’s not the time to put on a show,” said Tanguay.  “Yeah, I’ll be nervous at first but after a few shifts, I’ll have other things to worry about than the fact that I’m playing against my ex-teammates.”

Blue line bond: They teamed up to stop the opposition for two years in southern Alberta but tonight Roman Hamrlik and Dion Phaneuf will be defending different blue lines for the first time.  Though they’ve been in different conferences since the summer of 2007, the bond is still there.

“We send each other text messages,” admitted Hamrlik.  “It’ll be fun to play against him and a challenge as well.  Dion’s become an excellent defenseman.”

Closing in on a comeback:
Out of action since mid-November, Mike Komisarek hit the ice with his teammates on Tuesday morning for the first time since resuming skating on his own the past few days.

“I can’t wait to be on the bench rather than behind it,” laughed the temporary coach, who has put together a 3-0-1 record as an assistant. “I don’t think I’ll be back this week but maybe next week. The rest of our defensemen are playing well and that’s allowed me to take my time and make sure that I come back at 100%.”
