Canadiens lose 3-2 as top pick Carey Price makes Habs debut in goal

Canadiens' heavyweight Jimmy Bonneau showed no love for the Leafs' Dominic D'Amour in his second fight in as many nights.

OTTAWA - On Day 2 of the Rookie Tournament, the Canadiens prospects couldn't quite hold on to their one-goal, third period lead in dropping a 3-2 decision to the Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

The game marked the much-anticipated Habs debut for Carey Price, who was Montreal's top pick, fifth overall, at this summer's NHL draft. The 18-year-old native of Vancouver turned away 26 of the 29 shots he faced, including all but one of the first 21shots that came his way over the first two periods.

Also getting on the scoresheet for the Baby Habs was James Tardif and 2005 draft pick Guillaume Latendresse who snapped a wrist shot past Maple Leafs' goalie Todd Ford in the second period to give Montreal a 2-1 lead heading into the third. That makes two points in as many nights for the Drummondville Voltigeurs sniper as he continues to reward the Habs for moving up in the draft in order to nab the power winger 45th overall.

With the loss, the Canadiens fell to 1-1, while Toronto improved to 3-0. Next up for the Habs' prospects is a clash with the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm, before wrapping up the rookie tournament versus Ottawa on Saturday night.

NOTES: Winger Cory Urquhart picked up another assist, giving him two helpers in the tournament so far... Tough guy Jimmy Bonneau was at it again for the second straight night as showed no love for Dominic D'Amour during their second period tussle... Michael Lambert, James Sandford and Francis Lemieux led the way for Montreal with three shots apiece...  Guillaume Latendresse was all over the ice on Thursday night with a game-high six hits to go with his second period goal.
