CALGARY - The Habs outgun the Flames 5-3 in alumni action at the Heritage Classic.
The Canadiens and Flames were tied 1-1 after exchanging Stanley Cup Final triumphs against one another in the late 1980s. The Habs took the rubber match with a 5-3 win at McMahon Stadium to help set the table for the Heritage Classic on Sunday.
While the Flames alumni squad had a decided edge on paper with such stars as Al MacInnis, Joe Nieuwendyk, and Theo Fleury on their side, the Canadiens jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Leading the way was former captain Mike Keane who potted a pair of goals. Brent Gilchrist, Kevin Haller and Kirk Muller also scored for Montreal.
The way the former Habs clamped down defensively, held on to their lead and milked the rest of the clock to close out the win, they surely had the late Pat Burns smiling from above. -canadiens.com
