Getting to know Brian Gionta

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
MONTREAL -- Everyone knows that Brian Gionta is a speed demon on the ice, but what’s he like away from the rink?  We caught up with the man himself and put him on the hot seat to learn a little more about the Habs’ new winger.

What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I’d probably have to go with my Britney Spears songs, but for my kids I’ll admit that I’ve also got some High School Musical tracks hidden there, too.

What is your most embarrassing NHL moment?
I don’t remember the exact date, but there was one game during a TV time out where I decided to jump on the ice to loosen up the legs a little bit.  I took off on a little sprint without really looking and ran into a ref head first.  We both ended up on our backs on the ice.

What’s the best cartoon of all-time?
Tom and Jerry. Obviously, I was always rooting for Jerry.

Who’s your favorite Seinfeld character?
I have to go with Kramer. He’s always doing one crazy thing after another – and he definitely knows how to make a grand entrance.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever said to you?
You’re smaller than you look.

Who was the first person you thought about when you were lifting the Stanley Cup for the first time?
My parents. They have always been there for me, no matter what. They were there driving me to practice and they were always there to encourage and support me.

If they were making a movie about your life, who would you choose to play you on the big screen?
Mark Whalberg. He’s built for the part, right? (laughs)

If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would you pick?
I would have loved to meet Martin Luther King. I’d like to hear about the struggles he overcame and all the things he accomplished in his life.

Who do people say you look like?
I’ve heard I look like Tim McGraw from a few people.  That’s fine with me – I love country music.
