CANADIENS (44-27-7) vs. RED WINGS (37-26-14)
Saturday night, for the final time this season, the Habs and the Wings will do battle at the Bell Centre.
On Friday night, the Canadiens made a poor start against the Ottawa Senators but overcame an early deficit to score an overwhelming victory. Down 3-0 early in the game, the Habs came back with seven unanswered goals to finally prevail 7-4. Max Pacioretty had a hat trick plus two assists while Andrei Markov, Mike Weaver, Lars Eller and David Desharnais were the other scorers. Peter Budaj made 39 saves on 43 shots for the win. With the victory, the Habs are now two points clear of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic Division standings.
On the same night, the Red Wings beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 at Joe Louis Arena. Darren Helm, Tomas Jurco and Daniel Alfredsson had the goals for the home team while Jimmy Howard made 21 saves. The Wings now have a three-point cushion over Columbus for one of the two wildcard playoff spots available in the Eastern Conference.
Carey Price will make the start for Montreal. His counterpart will likely be Jonas Gustavsson, who also had the night off on Friday. Price was in net for the 5-4 win over the Red Wings on March 27. Gustavsson won 4-1 against Montreal on January 24.
Saturday’s game will be the forth and final regular season match-up between the two teams this season. Detroit won the two first games, but the Habs have done well on Saturday nights this year, going 13-7-2 with seven of those wins coming at the Bell Centre.
Puck drop will be at 7:00 PM E.S.T.
