CANADIENS (24-24-4) vs OILERS (21-26-5)
TV: RDS, CBC, SN 2:00 p.m.
The Canadiens kick off Super Bowl weekend with a Saturday afternoon match-up against the Edmonton Oilers.
On Wednesday night, the Habs erased a 1-0 Sabres lead thanks to goals from Dale Weise and Alex Galchenyuk in the second period. However, in the final frame Buffalo stormed back to score three unanswered and came away with a 4-2 victory.
The Oilers head to Montreal fresh off their 7-2 thrashing of the Ottawa Senators on the road at the Canadian Tire Centre. Jordan Eberle scored twice in the first period and added an assist on Andrej Sekera’s third period marker, to guide the Oilers to their second straight victory.
With back-to-back games on tap this weekend, coach Michel Therrien will turn to netminder Ben Scrivens to face his former team on Saturday afternoon. Scrivens, who is in search of his first victory as a member of the Canadiens, has played against every other NHL team in his career except for the Oilers.
Cam Talbot extended his perfect start to the month of February with a 36-save performance against the Ottawa Senators on February 4. The Caledonia, Ontario native is expected to get his third start of the month on Saturday afternoon against the Canadiens.
Saturday afternoon will be the Canadiens last chance to even the score in the season series as the Oilers picked up a 4-3 win on home ice in the first of two games between the teams this season.
