CANADIENS (25-24-4) vs HURRICANES (24-21-8)
TV: RDS, SN 2:30 p.m.
A match-up against the Carolina Hurricanes awaits the Canadiens on this year’s Super Bowl Sunday.
Just 24-hours prior to Sunday’s match-up, the Canadiens cranked up the offense and lit the lamp five times against a surging Oilers squad. With a goal and three assists to his credit, Tomas Plekanec tied his career high with four points on Saturday afternoon. In addition, Tom Gilbert – who scored his first goal of the season - chipped in the insurance marker in the third period.
The Hurricanes head to the Bell Centre on the heels of their 5-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, thanks to a three-point night from Jordan Staal. Between the pipes, netminder Cam Ward kicked aside 27 of the 29 shots thrown his way by the Jets, to earn his 15th win of the season.
As Ben Scrivens got the nod against the Oilers on Saturday, Mike Condon is expected to get the start between the pipes just 24 hours later against Carolina. The rookie netminder has previously squared off against the Hurricanes once in his career, a 3-2 loss on December 5, 2015.
Following Sunday afternoon’s contest, the two teams will meet for a third and final time on April 7, 2016, which is the Canadiens second last game of the regular season.
