The Canadiens head out on a quick road trip to Washington, where they prepare to take on the league leading Capitals on Wednesday night.
In the Canadiens most recent outing against Nashville on Monday night, a goal from Brendan Gallagher evened the score up at 1-1 late in the first period. After a scoreless second half, the game proceeded into a shootout where Craig Smith would score the lone goal giving the Predators the 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, the league leading Washington Capitals extended their current win streak to four games with a 3-2 defeat of the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night. Captain Alexander Ovechkin netted his 39th goal of the campaign, while Mike Richard’s first goal in a Capitals jersey would stand as the eventual game-winning-goal.
Following Wednesday morning's optional practice in Washington, the club confirmed that Dale Weise (flu) will make his return to the lineup, replacing forward Lucas Lessio. In addition, the team announced that Mike Condon will be back in goal against the Capitals after getting the nod against the Predators, where he made 29-saves in Monday night;s shootout loss.
In the injury department, defenseman Nathan Beaulieu did not travel with the team after sustaining a lower-body injury in Monday night’s contest. As a result, the Habs will have a new face in the lineup on Wednesday night, as recent call-up Victor Bartley will suit up for his first game in a Canadiens jersey.
The two Eastern Conference combatants are set to meet for the final time on Wednesday night, with the Capitals holding a 2-0 edge in the season series.
