MONTREAL – Here’s what the Oilers had to say after taking a third period spill, dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to the Canadiens on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.
Horcoff's sudden short-term memory loss
Edmonton assistant captain Shawn Horcoff isn’t one to cry about spilled milk, so after seeing his team blow a third period lead he preferred to keep his eyes on the future and forget his immediate past.
“We just fell short in the third period. It’s frustrating but you have to move forward from here. It’s not an easy building to play in, they’re a good team that came out with a lot of emotion after the coaching change and we did a lot of things well, we just fell a little short and we have to move on.”McTavish makes an offer the Habs can refuse
After seeing his team outshoot the Habs 23-9 heading into the third period, Edmonton head coach Craig McTavish likely imagined his team’s night would end with an easy two points. While the Oilers’ bench boss was busy orchestrating Deal or No Deal: NHL Edition
, though, Saku Koivu decided to make a counter offer of his own, netting the game-tying goal in the game’s dying seconds before notching the winner in OT.
“We sat on the lead as teams do, but we didn’t give up a ton of chances. It stings when you lose a game like that where you’re up with six minutes to go and you don’t get two points; I mean, at that point, we probably could have negotiated one point with Montreal and just taken the two.”Steve Staios on Markov’s self-destructing Synergy
When a referee calls a penalty in overtime, chances are good that the infraction was pretty blatant. After seeing Patrick O’Sullivan head to the box as Andrei Markov
struggled to collect the scattered pieces of his shattered stick, though, Steve Staios still wasn’t sold on the call.
“There was a play right before where one of our guys gets chopped down and there’s no call, but then one of their guys breaks their stick on a slash and we go to the box. It’s just one of those things, you know? It’s disappointing but we’ll move on.”Shauna Denis is a writer for canadiens.comRead also:
