Fighting for bronze

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

After a perfect showing in the preliminary round, the Czech Republic finally met its match in the semifinals against Sweden. Tied 0-0 after 20 minutes, the Czechs opened the scoring early in the second frame. The Swedes responded with two quick goals of their own and never looked back, earning a spot in the gold medal game with a 5-2 win.

The Czechs won’t have much time to dwell on the loss, already preparing for Sunday’s bronze medal game. Tied for second for his team’s scoring lead with five goals and three assists in seven games, Tomas Plekanec will be looking to add to those totals when the puck drops at 10:00 a.m. EST on Sunday morning.
