The Czech Republic is still perfect at the IIHF World Hockey Championships thanks to a 3-2 win over Russia on Sunday. Habs forward Tomas Plekanec
played the hero for the Czechs, potting the winning goal and adding an assist in his night’s work. Plekanec & Co. will take on Germany in the final game of the qualification round on Monday night.
At the other end of the spectrum, Belarus avoided relegation for the 2012 tournament by knocking off Slovenia 7-1 on Saturday afternoon. Andrei Kostitsyn
helped lead the way for the Belarusians, notching two goals and an assist in the effort to bring his tournament total to seven points – good enough for third overall in the championships.
