QUESTION: Against which team did the Canadiens post five wins versus five different goalies over the course of the same season?
ANSWER: The Quebec Nordiques in 1989-90
Like most of the other teams in the NHL that year, the Canadiens, led by head coach Pat Burns, had a field day downing their provincial rivals as the Nordiques proceeded to put together the worst record in the league with only 12 wins and 31 points. The Habs faced off against Quebec eight times that season, winning seven of those meetings, outscoring their opponents 46- 24 in that span. Greg Millen was the only Nordiques netminder to record a victory against the Habs that season, and it took him three tries to do it. Finding even less success were Ron Tugnutt, who lost both of his starts, and Mario Brunetta, Scott Gordon and Russian Sergei Mylnikov who also all failed to post wins.
When up against the Habs, the five Nordiques goaltenders all logged goals-against averages over 4.50 for the now defunct franchise. Mylnikov fared the worst, by far, with an abysmal 18.00 GAA.
