Canadiens unveil roster for 2005-06

Team makes final cuts to trim roster to required 23 players

After a solid preseason, Chris Higgins is one of six rookies to have cracked the Canadiens' season-opening roster.


MONTREAL - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey reduced his roster to the required 23 players on Monday by sending defenseman Ron Hainsey and forward Peter Vandermeer to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
In six preseason games, Hainsey registered one goal and had eight penalty minutes. Vandermeer also took part in six exhibition games. He did not record a point and totaled 37 penalty minutes.
The Canadiens roster includes two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 14 forwards. A total of six rookies made the team including Yann Danis, Chris Higgins, Alexander Perezhogin, Tomas Plekanec, Raitis Ivanans, and Mark Streit.
Montreal will kick-off the regular season on Wednesday when it  visits the Boston Bruins at TD BankNorth Garden, at 7:00 p.m. The Canadiens' first home game will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m., against the Ottawa Senators.
