MONTREAL - The Canadiens tendered an offer sheet to restricted free agent forward Sebastian Aho of the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.

The proposed offer, which Aho has signed, is for five years with an average annual value of $8.454 million.

Carolina has seven days to match the Canadiens' offer.

If they fail to do so and Aho joins Montreal, the Canadiens will provide compensation in the form of a first-round pick, second-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

The Canadiens will not incur any penalty if the Hurricanes match the offer and Aho remains with Carolina.

The 21-year-old Finnish centerman led Carolina with 30 goals and 83 points in 82 games this past season.

He also led the Hurricanes with 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 15 playoff games.
