MONTREAL  – The Montreal Canadiens visited François-de-Laval Elementary School in Ahuntsic Friday to unveil an exciting multidisciplinary school program for teachers and grade-school students. The program, Canadiens@school, was introduced by Canadiens President Pierre Boivin alongside Michelle Courchesne, Minister of Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec. Also on hand was Canadiens legend Henri Richard, who attended François-de-Laval School when he was a young boy, as well as Canadiens player Mathieu Dandenault and the team’s mascot, Youppi!.

“This program is the result of over 18 months of work and collaboration between the Montreal Canadiens and a group of teachers throughout the province. We wanted to give our support to Quebec’s teaching body by offering new tools to stimulate the learning desire of young Quebecers,” said Pierre Boivin, adding that the Montreal Canadiens are committed to fully assume their role in society.

The program’s series of innovative teaching modules was developed in compliance with the program from the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec. Available online and free of charge, it features easy access for teachers and students alike. The Canadiens@school program focuses on four subjects; French, Mathematics, English as well as Physical Education and healthy living habits.

The program offers teachers tools that can be used directly in the classroom. Each teaching module introduces a unique content, as well as interesting activities that address a variety of subjects and interests for children. Students can interact online, thanks to a questionnaire and interactive games.

The Montreal Canadiens are proud to contribute to Montreal and Quebec’s heritage, not only through their on-ice accomplishments, but also by their commitment to the community. Accessibility, authenticity, generosity, commitment and team spirit are the values cherished by all members of the organization as they unite their efforts to make a difference for the present and the future.
