MONTREAL - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Monday the signing of defenseman Mike Komisarek to a one-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Komisarek, 24, completed the 2005-06 season, his third in the NHL, with six points in 71 games (two goals, four assists) and 116 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 241-pound blueliner scored his first ever NHL goal on March 20, in a Canadiens' 4-2 victory over the Capitals in Washington. A native of West Islip, NY, Komisarek was the Canadiens' first round pick, seventh overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
