MONTREAL - The Canadiens announced on Tuesday that
Kent Hughes has been named the team's next general manager
. Here's a look at his career by the numbers.

51 - Hughes is 51 years old, and hails from the Montreal suburb of Beaconsfield. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vermont's Middlebury College in 1992, and earned his law degree from Boston College in 1996.
4 - Hughes played four seasons of NCAA Division III hockey at Middlebury, recording 54 goals and 140 assists for 194 points in 100 career games. After helping the Panthers win the ECAC championship in 1991, he was named team captain for his final season of collegiate hockey in 1991-92 and set new team records for assists (48) and points (63). His 140 career assists and 194 career points remain a Middlebury College record, and he was inducted into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020.
54 - Prior to embarking on his collegiate career, Hughes spent the 1986-87 campaign with the U18 AAA Lac St. Louis Lions, where he put up 54 points (18G, 36A) in 35 games. Future NHLers Enrico Ciccone and Dominic Roussel were among his teammates that season.
22 - Although Hughes himself was never drafted into the NHL, his brother, Ryan, was taken in the second round (22nd overall) by the Quebec Nordiques in 1990. After completing his NCAA career at Cornell, Ryan played parts of four seasons in the AHL and IHL, and also suited up for the Boston Bruins for three games in 1995-96.
2 - Hughes has two sons with hockey pedigrees. The eldest, Riley, was a seventh-round selection (216th overall) by Jeff Gorton and the New York Rangers in 2018, while Jack is currently the seventh-ranked North American skater according to the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's mid-season rankings. Both Riley and Jack play NCAA Division I hockey with the Northeastern University Huskies this year, where they are teammates with Habs prospects Jordan Harris and Jayden Struble.
21 - Having spent the bulk of his career as a player agent at Quartexx Management, where he also served as Managing Director, Hughes currently has 21 active contracts in the NHL, including the likes of Kris Letang, Patrice Bergeron, Darnell Nurse, Drake Batherson, and Anthony Beauvillier, according to
