Gallagher's visit takes the cake

MONTREAL - With November being Hockey Fights Cancer month, the Canadiens have been joining the rest of the NHL in participating in initiatives in support of all those affected by cancer. The first signs of the Habs' involvement started sprouting above the upper lips of some players - in the form of moustaches, which are being grown to raise money and awareness as part of Movember.

As well, after practice on Wednesday, Brendan Gallagher - sporting his budding moustache, of course - made his way over to the Canadian Cancer Society's Jacques-Cantin Lodge in Montreal to visit with residents there. The Lodge offers housing and support to people coming to Montreal to receive cancer treatments.
While the staff said that differing schedules can make it difficult to get the people staying in the Lodge all together for a gathering, that certainly wasn't the case with Gallagher's visit. The right winger, who two days earlier visited the Shriners Hospital to announce a fundraising event coming up on Sunday - was a big draw for the afternoon, spending time signing autographs, posing for selfies and cutting a Canadiens' themed cake.

Just as was the case at Monday's visit, No. 11 recognized the significance of the gesture and was more than happy to offer up some time in the name of a good cause.
"I think it's important. We're in a position where we're very fortunate to be able to do what we do. I can't really understand what these people are going through, but I know it's probably not easy. To take an hour out of my day to come in here and spend some time with them is really nothing," described Gallagher, who added his seventh goal of the season the night before in a 3-2 win over Vegas. "To hear that they get a lot out of it and that they enjoyed it makes you feel good inside and makes you want to do it again.
"When we're away from the rink, we have an opportunity to do a lot more and impact a lot more people than we would just playing the game. This is just a small example of that. It's easy for me to do, put smiles on people's faces," he concluded. "It put a lot of smiles on my face and I just enjoyed the day."
