The Canadiens reached an agreement in principle with Swedish defenseman Douglas Murray on a one-year contract for the 2013-14 season.
During the most recent campaign, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound rearguard played with both the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins. In 43 games in 2012-13, Murray posted one goal and five assists. He also played 15 playoff games for the Penguins, amassing two goals and one assist.
In eight NHL seasons, Murray has suited up for 465 games and registered 370 penalty minutes while also dropping the gloves 27 times.
