MONTREAL - Goaltender David Aebischer is the first winner of the Molson Cup for the 2006-07 season as he was declared the Canadiens' Player of the Month for October.
Aebischer collected 15 points in the Molson Cup standings, following three first star selections: on October 7 in Toronto, on October 11 in Philadelphia, and on October 31, against Ottawa. He finished ahead of left winger Christopher Higgins, who recorded 13 points (0-4-1) and centre Saku Koivu, who totaled nine points (1-1-1).
Aebischer, who played in six of the Canadiens' 11 games in October, posted a record of four wins, one defeat and one overtime loss. He concluded the month of October with a goals-against-average of 2.60 and a .924 save percentage.
In 2006-2007, the Molson Cup scoring system grants five points for every first star selection, three points for every second star selection and one point for every third star selection.
A presentation honoring the Molson Cup winner will take place prior to tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, at the Bell Centre.
