52 players invited to training camp

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that 52 players will participate in the team's 2008-09 training camp. Players will report for physical and medical exams at the Bell Centre on September 19.

The Canadiens' first on-ice sessions will take place at the Sportsplexe 4-Glaces in Pierrefonds on September 20-21. The training camp will run through October 8 with practices at the Bell Centre and Denis Savard Arena in Verdun. On October 2-3, the Canadiens’ training camp will move to the St-Jovite Arena in Mont-Tremblant.

The 52 players invited to training camp will include six goaltenders, 16 defensemen and 30 forwards. 18 of the 23 players who attended the rookie camp have been invited to the main camp. 13 players will be taking part in a third training camp with the Club this year, after participating in the Canadiens’ development camp last July in Candiac, Quebec.

Games on RDS, CKAC and CJAD

The Canadiens will play a total of nine pre-season games between September 22 and October 4. All games will be aired on CKAC and CJAD. Also, RDS will broadcast two pre-season games; September 23 in Roberval, Quebec against the Buffalo Sabres (Hockeyville promotion), and the October 4 game against the Minnesota Wild, at the Bell Centre.

Five players returned to juniors

The Canadiens completed their annual rookie camp at the Bell Centre on Thursday. Of the 23 players invited, five have been returned to their respective junior or college team. The list includes try-outs Nicola Riopel (goaltender - Moncton – QMJHL) and Alexandre Monahan (forward – Val d’Or – QMJHL), as well as three young prospects drafted by the Canadiens: Jason Missiaen (goaltender – Peterborough – OHL), Joe Stejskal (defenseman – Dartmouth – ECAC) and Danny Kristo (forward – Omaha – USHL).

Training Camp Schedule (September 19-21)

Please find below the schedule for the first three days of training camp. The Canadiens will play their first pre-season game on Monday, September 22, against the Boston Bruins, in Halifax.
