100 seasons of excellence

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens
MONTREAL -- In a few short hours, the puck will drop to mark the start of the 100th season in Canadiens history.  We thought it was only fitting to commemorate the occasion with a numerical recap of the team since its founding on December 4, 1909.

19,646 – Times that Canadiens players have found the back of the net in 5,942 regular season games.

6,993– Regular season points amassed by the storied franchise, aided by the team’s record-setting 132-point campaign in 1976-77.

3,052 – Regular season wins recorded by the Canadiens since Montreal first defeated the Cobalt Silver Kings on January 5, 1910.

450 – Total regular season whitewashes posted by Canadiens goaltenders, led by George Hainsworth’s incredible 22 shutouts in 1928-29.

56 – Times the Canadiens lit the lamp on 10 or more occasions in a regular season game, including 16 goals scored against the Quebec Bulldogs on March 3, 1920 – an NHL record that still stands today.

90 – Playoff series won by the Canadiens over the years, with the team sweeping their opponents in 28 of those match-ups.

24 – Times the Canadiens have hoisted the Stanley Cup as league champions, including five straight between 1956 and 1960.
