Words from Ward

by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins

Defenseman, Aaron Ward
On if he thought he would be traded when he woke up this morning:
Yeah, I did. I knew that positionally the New York Rangers were looking to make moves in order to make the team viable for the playoffs. I knew that at 34 years old I was a component that could possibly be moved.

On what he knows about Boston:
I actually know a lot about the team, because I know the management. I am familiar with Peter Chiarelli from when he was an agent with Larry Kelley. I also know Dave Lewis from when I played with him in Detroit. I also played with Marco Sturm in Germany during the lockout and I played in the minors with Jason York. I am really looking forward to meeting the rest of the guys.

On the strengths of his game:
My strengths are shot blocking and hitting. Generally I am a sound defenseman.

On whether he thinks that the friction between he and Jaromir Jagr had any impact on him being traded :
I think that’s a question best answered by Glen Sather. I don’t know what criteria went into the trade or what the motivation behind it was, but it is probably a question better answered by Rangers upper management.
