Swayman and Linus Ullmark shared a hug together before both taking a net for the U.S. vs. Sweden matchup on Saturday afternoon. Both played a strong game, with Swayman saving 20 of 22 shots and Ullmark saving 21 of 24. The game was forced into OT, but ultimately finished off by Braintree, Mass., native and current Ottawa Senator Adam Gaudette with 11.4 seconds remaining in the extra session to give United States a 3-2 win.
As far as how Swayman felt playing against his teammate and friend, he called it a "unique experience."
"You don't really get to do that too often, so it was a really fun game," Swayman told @IIHFHockey. "It could have gone either way, and he had a great game down there. He was making some saves and I was holding some cheers back at times."
Ultimately, both Swayman and Ullmark played to win, of course, but only one could come out on top this time. "It was really awesome to see him do well. But at the end of the day, I'm playing for USA, so I'm super happy about the win," Swayman added.
And on Monday morning, it was another Bruins meeting in different jerseys with Swayman and Team USA taking on Pastrnak and Czechia. Czechia ultimately came out on top with a 1-0 victory, but not without some friendly competition in front of the net with Swayman denying a Krejci to Pastrnak one-timer late in the third period. Despite the loss, Swayman was named Team USA Player of the Game after saving 15 of 16 shots, with at least two of his saves securing a spot on the highlight reel.
