NEW YORK –
The NHL announced today that goaltender Tim Thomas
has been named the Second Star of the Month for October. Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos and Colorado Avalanche forward Chris Stewart were named the First and Third Stars, respectively.
Thomas won each of his six starts in October and currently leads all goaltenders in Save Percentage (.984), Goals Against Average (0.50) and shutouts (3). He is the first Bruins goaltender to start the season 6-0-0 since Hockey Hall of Famer Cecil 'Tiny' Thompson in 1937-38. Highlights of the month included 73 saves in two wins over Washington and back-to-back shutout victories over Ottawa and Toronto, which helped him capture the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending October 31.
The Boston Bruins Foundation will donate $1,000 in Thomas' name to the children's charity of his choice.
