GATINEAU, Quebec --
The story continues to captivate many people, but Boston goaltender Tim Thomas
didn't want to entertain too many questions about his decision to forgo the B's visit to the White House last Monday.
"I did address it – everything I said in my statement was what I believed to be absolute truth," said Thomas after the All-Star Fantasy Draft on Thursday. "I don’t believe I need to revisit something I stated so clearly."
But Thomas clearly looks forward to revisiting his previous All-Star successes, which include three straight wins in the NHL's midwinter classic.
"It’s just something I’ve looked forward to since I was voted in – my family looked forward to it," said Thomas. "This weekend is a celebration of hockey and this game of hockey is a great game, it’s obviously given so much to me.
"I’ve played all sports growing up and this is the one I really love. To be part of an All-Star weekend and celebrate so many different aspects of it its awesome."
Also awesome was his being selected in just the second round by his All-Star captain - Bruins captain Zdeno Chara
"It’s obvious that he is a great player, obviously a tremendous goaltender," said Chara of the selection. "He deserved to be picked second."
"I appreciated it a lot," said Thomas. "You’re fortunate when you’re a goalie to get in here anyways because you can’t be picked last, you got to be picked in the first 10 rounds.
"It’s an honor and I’m happy with the way it played out."
Thomas was also happy to receive support from his teammates in what has surely become a trying time.
"They’re giving me their full and unwavering support, and I really appreciate that," said Thomas.
That support continued when Tyler Seguin
spoke to the press after his selection to Team Chara.
"I personally think my opinion on the whole situation doesn’t really matter in the end," said Seguin when asked about Thomas' decision to stay away from the white House. "For me, I had a great time and it’s a day I’ll remember."
Seguin will also remember seeing Thomas get picked by Chara.
"Yeah, I did enjoy that," said Seguin. "I think he’s one of the best goalies in the world, if not the best goalie in the world.
"I was happy to see him go that high."
And Seguin was also happy to see the spotlight shift from Thomas' political beliefs to his on ice prowess.
"I don’t really want him to have to be put on the spot," said Seguin, who added that as a teammate, he had Thomas's back, "no matter what he goes through."
