Beyond the amazing hockey match up between the Habs and the B’s, there is an outstanding musical team in the Garden tonight, as well. The Wreckers.
Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp are going to supply their fabulous musical styling to the National Anthem. Then, after the game, they will perform a concert for the big crowd in the TD Banknorth Garden.
Branch, who alongside her band mates and family, took the ice after the sound check, spoke about her favorite sport, hockey, and how thrilling it was to have sung at the NHL All Star Game earlier this season.
"I haven’t skated in years," she laughed as she struggled with her hockey skates, but looked right at home in her new Boston Bruins hockey jersey.
Despite being a skating novice, the talented young singer, who has also had an amazing solo career, said that hockey is her favorite sport.
"My older brother is a huge hockey fan," she explained. "We were very excited in Arizona when our team started…and I remember going to Coyotes games with my brother and watching fights and eating hot dogs, so, I think my favorite sport (event) is going to a hockey game, and seeing it in person."
Michelle and the Wreckers certainly picked a great game.
Canadiens vs. Bruins in the Garden, it doesn’t get much better than that.
And by the sounds of it, it may be the first game for Ms. Harp.
"Jessica, my band mate, she’s a big football girl," said Michelle. "I’m like ’Jess, you have to go to a hockey game’ and she doesn’t really understand it. She said ’I know, I’ve seen it on TV’ and I say, ’no, you have to actually go to the game, because it is a totally different experience.’"
Speaking of experiences, Ms. Branch also spoke about the All Star Festivities in Dallas.
"That was really exciting," said Michelle. "Just to be there and see all the different players in one place at one time, was pretty cool and Sidney Crosby signed his USA Today (photo) spread that was out that day…so I have that.
"My brother is jealous of me for that one."
I suppose we all are.
However, maybe we can grab her a Patrice Bergeron
photo to add to her collection?
For her part, Michelle was hoping that she and the Wreckers can spread a love of country music to the hockey fans in the Garden and that the country music fans who happen to come to see here, leave loving hockey.
"It will be cool to see what the people walk away with," said the musician.
Well, I for one thing know that there is one more fan of the Wreckers in the building -- yours truly.
Good luck to Michelle and Jessica. And, as always, GO BRUINS!
