THIS WEEK’S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS…
A WIN IN WINNIPEG: The Bruins kicked off a six-game road trip last night with a 6-2 win in Winnipeg. The Bruins’ 17-5-3 record on the road is ranked third in the NHL and second in the Eastern Conference. During this road trip, the B’s will face two Eastern Conference teams and four Western Conference teams. This road trip will span 11 days and cover 6,047.3 miles and six different cities in the US and Canada.
STAT OF THE WEEK: Brad Marchand has been on fire since the All-Star Break, scoring 6 goals in five games. Only the Penguins’ Sidney Crosby, who has seven goals in five games since the break, bests that total. In total, Marchand has tallied 11 goals in his last 11 games, a career-best streak.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Boston’s power play is ranked second in the NHL. The team is 36-for-151 (23.8%), with the highest percentage being 24.2% (WSH). The Bruins penalty kill has also improved to 83.2%, good for seventh best in the league. Currently, the Bruins are ranked second in the NHL in shorthanded goals against with only one in 54 games. They are ranked sixth in shorthanded goals for with six in 54 games.
BRUINS ACADEMY TO AIR SATURDAY: The next episode of “Bruins Academy” will air on Saturday, February 13 at 12:30 p.m. In this episode, Patrice Bergeron checks in from Nashville, Tuukka Rask answers questions from young Bruins fans and team doctors give an inside look into Chris Kelly’s injury. Also, Bruins Academy takes a visit to the University of Maine. Be sure to catch a new episode of “The Bear & the Gang” in the next episode of Bruins Academy. In this episode, Brad Marchand is up to his old tricks! The second episode of “Bruins Academy” aired on NESN on January 19 and the premiere episode aired on Sunday, December 20. The series is a fast-paced, educational, Black & Gold-themed program created for youth who love the game of hockey. One 30-minute episode will air per month on NESN, and the premiere episode can be viewed on www.BostonBruins.com and on the Bruins mobile app.
UPCOMING BRUINS PJ DRIVE EVENTS: The Boston Bruins are teaming up with Freihofer’s and Cradles to Crayons throughout the month of February to present the ninth Annual “PJ Drive” to benefit Massachusetts’ underprivileged youth. The PJ Drive provides new, unused pajamas to children in need across Massachusetts; Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara will lead this year’s PJ Drive for the second time. Over 75,000 Massachusetts children have received PJ’s through the Bruins PJ drive over the past eight years. BOSTON BRUINS FASHION POWER PLAY: On Tuesday, February 23, join the Boston Bruins Foundation at the 2nd Annual Fashion Power Play, a special evening of fashion fueled fundraising. Wives and girlfriends of current Boston Bruins players, as well as professional models, will model spring fashions from Neiman Marcus. Attendees will be able to enjoy complimentary cocktails and culinary delights from some of Boston's best restaurants, as well as a silent auction featuring exclusive Bruins memorabilia. Jenny Johnson, host of NESN’s “Dining Playbook,” will serve as emcee for the evening. All proceeds to benefit The Boston Bruins Foundation and the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. BEHIND THE B: Episode 9 of Behind the B presented by ALEX AND ANI premiered on Thursday, Feb. 11 on NESN. BRUINS ON THE AIRWAVES: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug has been confirmed as a weekly call-in guest with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand (Zo and Bertrand), which airs weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adam McQuaid will be a regular guest on 100.7 WZLX with Kevin Karlson and Pete McKenzie (Karlson & McKenzie), which airs weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Call-in days and times are dependent upon the B’s schedule.
