Walking for a cure
On Sunday, the Bruins had a team of 20 participate in the Breast Cancer Walk on the Esplanade. The B’s walk squad, dubbed the "Pink Pucks" included player wives Siw Axelsson, Katie Murray, Leanne Primeau and Astrid Sturm, as well as members of the front office staff, the Bruins Ice Girls, and Blades, the team mascot. The Bruins had Sunday off, but Boston will take to the practice ice three times this week en route to their Thursday showdown with the Calgary Flames.
Incidentally, the Flames are 2-2-1 through five games.
No doubt the team will continue to work on its power play and penalty killing squads, while augmenting their existing defensive game.
It should be exciting to see another game in the big building, as the last time the TD Banknorth Garden saw hockey was the preseason New York Rangers game. Renovations and work on the Garden continued through the circus shows, so I can’t wait to see the Bruins barn done up like a rink again. And who doesn’t relish another chance to see the new scoreboard - a.k.a. the Mother Ship. Not to mention that I know the Bruins have a nice pregame show in store for the fans.
To a man, everyone seemed to think that the road trip would lead to some bonding, however, nobody will be complaining about returning to Boston and the Garden -- and I am sure to get quotes to that tune tomorrow.
For many, this will be the first regular season experience in the Hub of Hockey, and many of the guys were looking forward to "meeting" the fandom in person when it mattered.
Hopefully Bruins nation is prepared to be loud in their support, as the team needs their seventh man against the Flames on Thursday.Around the League
As of Sunday night, five teams, including the Bruins had one win, with the most notable of those being the Colorado Avalanche. However, the most interesting records belong to Ottawa (2-3-1), the Rangers (2-3-0), Carolina (2-3-1), and the aforementioned Calgary.
All of those teams are supposed to be the metal of the NHL, and no doubt it will be just a matter of time until they hit their stride -- just like the B’s.The B’s Leaderboard

Here’s a tip of the toque to Jeff Hoggan, who takes the BBBW prize this week. Jeff just seemed to be the Bruin who most earned his Spoked B over the last few games. As the General said on Saturday night, "That Hoggan guy, he takes care of business out there." Nice job Jeff.Quotes from the Road…
"That’s not the situation that we want to go home with. But we just have to try and work on the things we did wrong in these games this week in practice. And be ready for the home opener this Thursday…I think penalties are [an] important part of this game nowadays, and every time you take a penalty or get a penalty it just changes the whole momentum…they got the momentum, scored a couple of goals, and that changes the whole thing. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’ve just got to find a way."Goalie, Hannu Toivonen, after Saturday night’s game
"Same thing. We had glorious chances to get a really good lead. We got a one goal lead on our powerplay but we had other chances that we should’ve buried. In the second period we had some 3-on-1’s and 4-on-1’s, we don’t score, we don’t capitalize on our opportunities. As the game goes on you only get so many chances like that. And the puck has gotta get in the net. When it’s not in the net, you see what happens. They get back into the game with one, they get another one, then the wheels fall off and [then they get] two power play goals in the third."Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on the loss to New York
"We’re going to practice and we are going to practice hard…it’s going to be good to be home. It will be good to be in the Garden, for a change…we’ve been bouncing around, and I am looking forward to getting back to Boston."Lewis, on returning to BostonSpeaking of the Garden
