BERGERON NAMED SELKE FINALIST: The NHL announced May 15, that B’s forward Patrice Bergeron has been named one of three finalists for the 2013 Frank J. Selke Trophy. The Selke Trophy is awarded annually "to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.” The other finalist are Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings and Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks. Bergeron finished the 2013 regular season leading all NHL players in faceoff percentage. winning puck drops at a 62.1% (549/884) rate. Often playing against the league’s top lines, Bergeron finished sixth in NHL plus/minus rating at +24. Bergeron logged 153:37 time on the PK, serving as the primary forward on the Bruins penalty kill unit, which finished fourth in the NHL with an 87.1% (142-for-163) proficiency. This is Bergeron’s second time being nominated for the Selke Trophy in his nine-year NHL career, having won the award last year.
MCQUAID NAMED MASTERTON TROPHY FINALIST: Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid has been named a finalist for 2013 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, as selected by the Professional Hockey Writer’s Association (PHWA). The Masterton Trophy is given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Other finalists include Minnesota goaltender Josh Harding and Pittsburgh forward Sidney Crosby.
'BOSTON STRONG' FAN BANNER CAPTAIN: The Bruins Fan Banner has been passed around the loge section of TD Garden before playoff games since the 2009 postseason. In 2011, Honorary Captains were introduced and have traditionally featured prominent Bruins alumni. Dance instructor Adrianne Haslet-Davis served as the Fan Banner Captain for Game 1 against the Rangers. Adrianne, despite being injured at the Boston Marathon, vows not only to dance again, but to also participate in the marathon in the future. BOSTON BRUINS SUMMER CAMP: The Boston Bruins and Pro Ambitions Hockey, Inc. have partnered to host four YoKids Boston Bruins Summer Camps, presented by Stonyfield, for youth hockey players ages 6-15. BRUINS PLAYOFF OT HISTORY: The Boston Bruins played their 120th postseason overtime game on May 16 against the New York Rangers at TD Garden in Game 1, which marked the sixth time the Bruins and Rangers had squared off in an OT postseason game. In those six games the Black & Gold hold a 5-1 record over the Blue Shirts. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal was the 57th time the Bruins have played an OT playoff game on home ice where they are currently 29-27-1. So far in the 2013 postseason the Bruins are undefeated in extra time, with a 3-0 record.
NHL FIRSTS: Bruins defenseman Torey Krug notched his first NHL goal in his first NHL playoff game on May 16 against the New York Rangers. Krug joins fellow defenseman Matt Bartkowski as the second Bruin to score his first NHL goal in the playoffs. It is the first postseason in which two Bruins have scored their first NHL goals since Bob Beers and John Byce tallied their first NHL goals in the 1990 playoffs. Dougie Hamilton also reached a milestone as he assisted on Krug’s goal, giving him his first NHL postseason point and assist.
KREJCI COMING UP CLUTCH: Bruins forward David Krejci currently leads all NHL postseason scoring having notched 14 points (5-9) through his first eight playoff games of the 2013 playoffs. Krejci is currently second in assists (nine) and tied for second in goals (five). In the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship run, Krejci led all postseason scorers in goals (12) and points (23). His 12 goals were the most even scored by a Czech player in one playoff year.
CHARA LEADING DEFENSEMEN: Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara has been a lethal D-man for the B’s, tallying 2-6=8 totals in the midst of a five-game point streak. The Defenseman currently leads is currently third in NHL postseason points with 10, which leads all defenseman in that category. Chara also leads all NHL players in shots registered in the 2013 playoffs with 34.
KREJCI LINE LEADS PLUS/MINUS: The line composed of Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Nathan Horton leads the Bruins offense in scoring combining for 31 points (11-20) through the first eight games of the postseason. The trio also sits atop the postseason plus/minus rating category, with Nathan Horton leading the way with a +12 rating, followed by Krejci’s +10 and Lucic’s + 9.
SHOTS FIRED: Three Bruins players are among playoff leaders in shots registered thus far this postseason. Zdeno Chara leads all players with 34 shots registered, while Tyler Seguin ranks third with 33. Patrice Bergeron is also among the leaders ranked fifth, having recorded 32 shots on nets thus far.
JULIEN’S OT PLAYOFF RECORD: Since being named head coach in 2007-09 season, Claude Julien has amassed a 36-27 record in the postseason, including a 12-7 record in playoff games that have gone into overtime. Thus far this postseason, the Bruins, under coach Julien, are 3-0 in overtime games. The 2009 Jack Adams award winner has a career playoff record of 40-34 between his time with the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins.
BERGERON’S SERIES CLINCHER VS TOR: The Bruins defeated the Maple Leafs in seven games of their Conference Quarterfinal series, becoming the first team in NHL history to win a Game 7, after trailing by three goals in the third period. Patrice Bergeron registered the game-tying goal in the third period and then the game-winner in overtime in Game 7.
UPCOMING GAMES: The Bruins will continue the Eastern Conference Semifinal series this week in their against the New York Rangers, beginning the week with Game 2 on Sunday, May 19. Puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m. ET at the TD Garden in Boston. The team will then hit the road for a two-game stretch in New York, playing Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The B’s will finish off their week with Game 4 on Thursday, May 23, with the start time at Madison Square Garden scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
BROADCAST SCHEDULE: All of this week’s games will be covered on RDS and TSN. Sunday’s game will also be covered on NBC, and Tuesday’s game will be covered on NBC Sports Network. 158 AND COUNTING: Following Friday’s home game at TD Garden, the Bruins have sold out their last 158 home games, including regular season and playoffs. This sellout streak began more than three years ago on December 5, 2009 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last game the Bruins did not have 17,565 in attendance at the Garden was on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning (16,553).

POSTSEASON B’S JACKET & FAN BANNER TRACKER…
B’S JACKET TALLY: After a Bruins win, the team has begun awarding an Army Rangers jacket to the player who had the best game. The player then wears the jacket in the locker room during the media access period and hangs it in his stall until the team’s next win. After the next win, he will select a different teammate to pass it along to. This customized Army Rangers camouflage jacket, which was given to Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference by an active members of the Rangers, is adorned with a Bruins patch on the right shoulder. "They live by a slogan, ‘Rangers Lead the Way’,“ said Ference. “So I think it's fitting to give this to a player that led the way for us in a game. A lot less important than what they're doing but for us, it's important to have guys step up so they get to wear this for the night.” Here’s the jacket tally thus far:

OFF THE ICE…
PATRICE’S PALS: As a part of his continuing charitable initiative Patrice’s Pals, Bruins alternate captain Patrice Bergeron invites children from local hospitals and other organizations to experience a Bruins home game from his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags filled with Bruins memorabilia, a visit from the Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls, as well as a feature on the Garden HDX. After the game, Patrice’s Pals are escorted to ice level and introduced to Patrice himself who signs autographs and takes pictures with his Pals. This will take place at all Boston Bruins home games during the 2012-13 season.
SAVVY’S SUITE: Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has partnered with the Brain Injury Center at Children’s Hospital Boston, inviting children who suffer from the effects of Brain Trauma, both physically and psychologically, to attend a Bruins home game in his luxury suite. Children and their families receive goodie bags with Bruins memorabilia and a visit from Bruins Mascot Blades and Bruins Ice Girls. Savard started the program on Thursday, January 12, 2012, and it will continue through the end of the 2013-14 Bruins season.
COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM: For the entirety of the Boston Bruins 2012-13 regular season, Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is donating ten balcony tickets to every home game to children from charitable organizations across New England, who are invited to enjoy a Bruins home game from these donated seats.
BRAD’S BRIGADE IS BACK: The 2012-2013 season marks an exciting new chapter for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s charitable program, “Brad’s Brigade”. Established in 2010, Marchand’s program invites children from pediatric oncology units across New England to experience a Bruins home game. Children and their families sit in the loge section and are featured on the Garden HDX. Each family also receives a Brad’s Brigade T-Shirt, a Garden Gold Card and a goodie bag with Bruins memorabilia. At the conclusion of the game, families are escorted down to ice level where they have the opportunity to meet Marchand and get a photo taken with him.
250K DONATED FOR MARATHON VICTIMS: Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs has donated $100,000 on behalf of the entire Bruins organization and Bruins players to the recently established ‘One Fund Boston’, whose purpose is to raise money to help those families most affected by the events at the Boston Marathon. The TD Garden, NHL and NHLPA have also made a donation in the amount of $50,000 each to show their support, making the combined total of all parties $250,000.
MARCHAND’S RAFFLE TO BENEFIT THE RICHARD FAMILY: Brad Marchand raffled off his own TD Garden suite for the team’s first home playoff game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 1, with all proceeds benefitting the Richard family of Dorchester, whose son Martin passed away following the tragedy at the Boston Marathon. The raffle ended on March 29 and generated $207,000.
BEARD-A-THON: Bruins fans are invited to "Grow One for Boston" by growing their own playoff beard in the annual Bruins 'Beard-A-Thon' for the duration of the team's 2013 Stanley Cup playoff run. Beard growers will raise money for the Boston Bruins Foundation to benefit The One Fund Boston. All proceeds from the 2013 Bruins Beard-A-Thon (minus credit card transaction fees that are typically between 1.5-3%) will be donated on behalf of the Boston Bruins Foundation directly to The One Fund Boston. BRUINS ICE GIRLS & BLADES TO VISIT FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
WHAT: The Boston Bruins Ice Girls and Mascot Blades will be visiting Franklin Elementary School for a pep rally, as the students of Franklin School were among the top supporters of the 2013 PJ Drive. Blades will visit the school bringing Roster Posters for the students and participate in a school wide pep rally. Blades is also scheduled to visit all of the classrooms and take photos.
