Subban, Pastrnak Highlight 2014 Development Camp Attendees

by Jess Isner / Boston Bruins — As the Bruins prepare for their seventh annual Development Camp, there will be some new faces on the ice, as well as some that B’s fans have grown accustomed to seeing during the summer at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Mass.

In all, the Black and Gold will welcome 23 players — 13 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders — for camp, which will run from Wednesday, July 9 through Sunday, July 13. Seventeen of the players are members of the Bruins organization, while six have been invited. (You can see a complete roster below.)

Some of the roster highlights include four of the Bruins’ 2014 NHL Entry Draft selections. First-rounder and Czech Republic native David Pastrnak arrived in Boston on Monday night ready for his first Development Camp with the B’s.

“I’m not even tired after that [travel]," Pastrnak said upon arriving at Boston Logan Airport on Monday night. "I'm just really looking forward to being on the ice and in practices, and meeting the guys. It's going be fun."

Pastrnak last played for Sodertalje in the Swedish Second Division League, where he registered eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 36 games this season. He also played with the Czech Republic’s Under-18 and Under-20 teams. He was the 25th overall selection in this year’s draft.

2014 draft picks Ryan Donato, Anders Bjork and Emil Johansson will also attend camp. Donato, the Bruins’ second-round selection, became the leading scorer in prep school hockey as a junior with the Dexter School last season, tallying 37 goals and 41 assists for 78 points in 30 games. Bjork, who plans to attend Notre Dame this fall, was the B’s fifth-round pick (146th overall) and played in 61 games with the U.S. National Under-18 team, tallying 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points in 61 games.

Johansson was Boston’s final pick of this year’s draft. In 42 games with HV71 of Sweden’s SuperElit, he finished with two goals and seven assists for nine points.

The B’s recently signed defenseman Linus Arnesson to an entry-level contract after drafting him 60th overall in the 2013 Entry Draft. Arnesson played in 44 games with Djurgarden in Sweden in 2013-14, registering a goal and five assists for six points.

Malcolm Subban and Zane Gothberg will represent the B’s in net during this year’s camp. Subban played in 33 games with the Providence Bruins in 2013-14, going 15-10-5 with a 2.31 goals-against average. During Providence’s run in the Calder Cup Playoffs, Subban played in six games while helping the team advance to the second round.

Gothberg, who was drafted by the Black and Gold in 2010, played in 33 games with the University of North Dakota in 2013-14, going 20-10-3 with a 1.99 GAA while leading UND to the Frozen Four.

Boston's 2013 draft picks Anton Blidh (SHL), Peter Cehlarik (SHL), Michael Dempsey (GOJHL), Ryan Fitzgerald (Boston College) and Wiley Sherman (The Hotchkiss School) will attend this year’s Development Camp.

Among the 2012 draft picks who will be returning to Development Camp are Matt Benning (Northeastern University), who totaled 13 points in 33 games with the Huskies last season, and Matt Grzelcyk (Boston University), who registered 11 points in 19 games with the Terriers in 2013-14. He was also named an alternate captain for the USA World Junior Championships U-20 team.

Forward Colton Hargrove (Western Michigan University) will also return to camp after a successful season with the Broncos in which he finished with seven goals and 10 assists in 27 games.

2011 draft pick Rob O’Gara (Yale University) will attend camp once again. The defenseman finished the 2013-14 season with four goals and seven assists in 33 games.

Among the Bruins’ Development Camp invites are Cole Bardreau (Cornell University), Kyle Baun (Colgate University), Michael Doherty (Yale University), Alex Globke (Lake Superior State University), Simon Norberg (Leksand J20), Billy Sweezey (Noble and Greenough School) and Oleg Yevenko (UMass Amherst).
