WILMINGTON, MA — The group of skaters on the ice for Wednesday’s informal practice at Ristuccia Arena was smaller than usual, but there was still room for at least one newcomer.
Providence forward Seth Griffith joined the group for the first time at informal practices, taking the ice with the likes of Zdeno Chara — who led Wednesday’s session — David Krejci, Brad Marchand, Dennis Seidenberg and more.
Griffith had a breakout rookie season for the P-Bruins in 2013-14, finishing second on the team in scoring and notching 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 12 playoff games.
As has become the norm over the last week or so, rookie forward David Pastrnak was the first player out on the ice, doing stick drills long before the rest of the group emerged from the dressing room.
For the second straight day, Milan Lucic took the ice with the rest of the crew (instead of skating on his own), and although he didn’t take the ice, training camp invite Ville Leino was also spotted at the rink.
Johnny Boychuk and Jordan Caron both spoke after Wednesday’s session for the first time this fall, and both of them fielded questions about trade rumors this summer, but reiterated that their focus is on preparing for training camp and continuing to contribute in any way they can on the ice.
Also of note at Wednesday’s session: Seidenberg, infamous for his T-blades, tried out some new (non-T) blades before the bulk of the players took the ice. We'll see whether they make the grade.
Niklas Svedberg was the lone goalie present for Wednesday’s session and held strong between the pipes for drills, but one of the biggest focuses of the session was on conditioning and sprinting. A handful of players participated in a good 20 minutes of relay races, and judging by some mild chirping and lots of laughs, the competitive juices were flowing, as were the positive vibes.
Here's the attendance at Wednesday's practice:
