BOSTON BRUINS HEAD COACH CLAUDE JULIEN POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE
On if tonight was the kind of effort and results he was looking for…
Yeah, I think it was one of our obviously better efforts in quite awhile. From start to finish the effort we put on at both ends of the ice, but also through the middle of the ice there - taking their speed away. So our guys really did a good job tonight.

On getting two early goals…
Well that made a huge difference. We talked about getting off to a real good start [against] a team that had played last night so we wanted to come out strong and we did. Not only that, we managed to get some quick goals here so that made a big difference. Obviously with what we’ve been going through here just kind of gave our guys some real good confidence there and loosened them up a little bit and took off from there. There’s no doubt that was certainly one of the keys to the game.

On Torey Krug’s goal…
Yeah it was a big goal for us and for him, so good shot.

On if tonight was a reminder to his team of how well they can play…
Absolutely you know, absolutely. It’s important that we kind of bottle up that and bring the same kind of game here on Saturday. We want to give ourselves a chance. Again we’ve got to rely on some breaks here or there. We have to be focused and kind of bring that same kind of game to give ourselves the best chance possible.

On if he’s encouraged from the play of Noel Acciari’s line…
Everybody played well tonight. There’s no disappointments in my mind anyways from our crew.

On scoreboard watching…
Well, again, that’s the way it is and I said that before and I’m not going to change my tune here. We created that situation and we got to live with it and take care of business the best we can here and still continue and hope for some breaks here.

On whether he’s frustrated his team played so well tonight…
You know guys, every team, almost every team in this league goes through a slump at one point in the season and unfortunately for us we hadn’t until this last month. That’s what’s really gotten us in trouble and it’s unfortunate but again you can look in the rearview mirror or you can focus on Saturday, and that’s the best thing to do right now is focus on Saturday.

On Max Talbot bringing energy to the team…
He always has. He didn’t just bring it tonight, he always has been that kind of player.

On what he’s liked about his team’s effort in limiting chances…
Well our commitment to keeping pucks out of our net. Every time we’ve been in those high-scoring games we haven’t been in too many where we won, so we’ve had our best success by playing really good defense and every time we’ve played good defense we’ve had better offense come out of it so it’s about buying in and doing the job properly.

On if he spent extra time firing up the team or if he left it up to the captains…
That’s a little bit of everybody contributed to that.

BOSTON BRUINS GOALTENDER TUUKKA RASK
On if this was one of the team’s best efforts of the year…
It was, yeah. We played a heck of a game. Everybody needed to step up and play as one and we did.

On what’s worked for the team defensively this week…
Well, I think especially today we closed on them very quickly. We didn’t give them too much time to enter. We blocked a lot of shots, almost probably as many as they had on net and when you do those things I think it takes a lot of opportunities away from the other team.

On what the team needs to carry into Saturday in order keep this going…
Well, we have to. There’s no other way. But I think everybody just needs to bottle that energy up that we had today and keep things real simple and be ready to work real hard. Get the pucks in, get the pucks out and then keep things simple because this season that has resulted as wins for the most part. So, that’s the biggest thing.

On the atmosphere and crowd energy in tonight’s game...
Yeah, the crowd has been behind us for the past couple nights which is great. Obviously we haven’t given them a lot of opportunities to cheer for us this season at home, but the past two games we’ve really laid it all out there and that’s all they want. So thanks for them and it’s great to see the fans being behind us.

On the uncertainty the team is facing going into the game 82 of the season…
Well nothing new for us, I guess. But I think we’ve pretty much played playoff hockey here for the past month or so, so it won’t be anything new for us. I think we just have to – we know what we can do out there and we have to be mentally focused to do those things and then we’ll be fine. So, you know. But that’s how the game goes nowadays. The standings stay tight till the end and now we are one of those teams who are on the verge of the playoffs. So, that’s how it is and we just have to be mentally strong.

On if the past few nights have been stressful or exciting for the team…
Well it depends how you take it. You can’t be stressing too much; you just have to focus on things you can control and you know, when you go out there, do your best and lay it all out on the line and that becomes fun. You saw it yourself today – we played a heck of a game and guys seemed to have fun out there. So, when you try to take that mental stress out of it and relax and just focus on the job it tends to make things easier. It’s not easy, but we found a way today.

On if it’s frustrating that the team wasn’t able to tap into the energy they had today earlier in the week…
Well, that’s just the reality. We can’t be frustrated at that now, I mean, it is what it is. No – I don’t think it’s time to start looking back or ahead. Biggest thing for us is to stay in the moment and play as best as we can.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN TOREY KRUG
On the importance of getting the win and bouncing back…
It was huge. We obviously know the implications of winning and losing, so it was good to obviously have the start that we did – with them traveling and everything it was, I think, crucial to our success to get out there and get the first one and push them back a bit and overall it was a really good team win. We’re in a position where we can continue to live and hopefully get some more help and Saturday we have a job to do.

On getting his first goal in a while and what it meant to both him and the team…
Well it was nice. I mean, more importantly our power play had to come through for us at some point down the stretch and it’s nice to get one there and help our team win and I think it was an important time in the game, too. So, it was nice to get that one and we’ll move on.

On how the team will bottle this energy and bring it on Saturday…
Well, just realize how important it is to have every single guy pulling their load and committed to the system and moving forward, we played great but like I said, that game is over with and we have another big test and we’ve got to just realize that and bring the same effort Saturday.

On if getting two goals early in the game gave the team a shot in the arm for the rest of the game…
Yeah, it was important. Not only did it push them back a little bit and break whatever confidence they had coming into the game, but for our confidence it was huge. To see a couple go in the back of the net early and realize that we can stick to our game and just keep continuing to press on them and hopefully they eventually break and it worked out for us.

On heading into the final game of the season with uncertainty about a playoff spot…
It’s fun. I mean, obviously you’d like to be in a different position where your playoff spot is secure, but like I said earlier before the game, you want to play in big games and important games and you want to be the guy that helps your team win. So I think right now we have a lot of guys in this locker room that want to help out that way.

On his personal game tonight…
I just don’t mind playing against the Detroit Red Wings – hometown team and everything – and obviously it was a big game for us, but it’s more than that. It’s a team game, you know, everything that we were involved with was a five-man unit out there and it was just nice to get this win.

On capitalizing early and not allowing chances…
Like I said earlier, it was important coming off a back-to-back to not give them any life and it was nice to capitalize early to break whatever confidence they had. So, it goes both ways. It helped our confidence, too.

On if the team will be able to repeat this performance on Saturday…
Absolutely. I don’t know what Ottawa did – I think they beat Florida, right? So it’s a very tight league where anyone can beat anyone and they obviously want to come in here and be spoilers, so we’re just going to work on our game.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD MAX TALBOT
On his line scoring on his first shift…
It was good. It was good, obviously it kind of gives you a little extra energy and it was good.

On how he felt about his line…
You know I think every time you’re more in the defensive zone as a line [pauses] we were plus the whole game, unfortunately the second goal we were on the ice. I think we competed hard, we forechecked well, we didn’t force any plays and we got a couple looks on net. It was good.

On playing in big games…
For me personally, fourth chance or fifth chance this year [laughs]. I was going to say second chance but it’s more than that. It feels good but you know, got to take it as business as usual and come in here and act like you never left and work out. I worked hard and tonight it worked out. I know there’s still a lot of work left for me and for this team to be done and focused on Saturday.

On what he brings to the table both on-the-ice and off-the-ice…
It’s tough to talk about yourself like that but I like to think I bring what I bring and I’ll let it speak for itself.

On what went through his head the last time he was sent down…
A couple things go through your head for sure. I don’t want to focus about that right now, I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about this year. It’s more about talking about Saturday than anything else.

On going into game 82 knowing they need to win and get some help to make the playoffs…
I think it’s what a hockey player would play for. It’s having a chance to make the playoffs we control our destiny by just going and playing a game and you know it’s fun – it’s exciting.

On how he controls his emotions…
I think if we come into Saturday’s game like we came tonight we kind of got to have the same approach which was do your job, work and don't think about what you can’t control. Come to the rink prepared to win and that’s what we’re going to need to do on Saturday, too.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD BRAD MARCHAND…
On how he feels about the start of the game…
Yeah I think we have to be happy with that. Pasta [David Pastrnak] did a great job at getting that first goal for us and you know we were able to get some momentum from that. So that was definitely a good start.

On if he felt good cementing the good start with his goal…
Yeah it was good to follow up. I just thought the guys did a good job at playing hard and being prepared and you know it showed from the start of the game.

On if he was following the game in Philly…
No not really. We did back there just now but you know all we can really do is worry about us and hope that it works out.

On if Torey Krug scoring means that they’re breaking out of their slump…
I don't really think that we’re in a slump. But it was great for Torey to get a goal. I mean with the way he shoots the puck at the net, it’s going to go in eventually. So it’s great that it happened tonight.

On getting two quick goals…
Yeah, for sure. I think it was some confidence. I thought we played well after that and it’s always easier to play with the lead so it’s always good to get those first couple.

On if he expected this game because of all the intensity beforehand…
Yeah it was definitely a playoff feel out there and you could tell the guys were preparing that way so it was good to see the guys ready like that.

On if it’s frustrating that they couldn’t do this in earlier games…
No. We’re in the situation we’re in and we can’t look at what could have been or what would have been. It’s all about where we are right now and all we can do is prepare for the next one.

On winning NESN’s 7th Player Award…
Yeah it’s great. You know the fans here are incredible and it’s always great to have support from them, so definitely honored to get that award.

On what it means that the Bruins responded the way they did in a do-or-die situation…
Definitely some character in the room and I think the guys stepped up and showed that tonight so it’s definitely good.

On if he’s ever been as fired up as when he scored his goal…
Yeah I was definitely pretty excited. I just could tell the emotion in guys. So it felt good. Luckily I didn’t get hurt on that.

On looking like the Red Wings never had a chance to breathe…
I just thought, you know, we were prepared and it worked out in our favor.

On Torey Krug snapping out of his goal-scoring drought…
It was great. I mean you know when you have guy like that stepping up in big games like tonight it’s great and it’s always nice when you have the D contributing in big games like tonight.

On how you duplicate this for Saturday…
Just got to be prepared and prepare the same way.

On how he prepares for a matinee game…
No I mean I think we all know what’s at stake and like I said just have to prepare the same way we did tonight.

On needing the killer instinct for Saturday…
Yeah you will. You definitely need that at this time of the year and it's good that we were able to step up and show that tonight. And again it’s something that we’re going to need next game.

On the team being focused and ready to go…
I don't know they’re just preparing in their own way and you know I think that’s confidential things.

On how he reacted from his goal…
No I just…it’s a big game and we have a lot of emotions and, you know, when the puck goes in the net we’re all excited.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD PATRICE BERGERON
On how important the full team effort was tonight…
Yeah, it was important. That’s all you can ask for really, is everyone working hard and giving everything they’ve got. Especially with what’s on the line, and when we do that, it makes everything, everybody’s job a lot easier. So, it showed tonight.

On the two first-period goals giving the team a boost…
Yeah, it gave us lots of energy, especially that first goal. Pasta’s [David Pastrnak] move was a great play, and it definitely gave us confidence, and it calmed the bench down obviously, and we could look forward. So, it was nice to get that first goal, and then the second one was pretty quick after it, so it definitely gave us some good legs.

On if the Bruins planned to not give Detroit a chance offensively…
Yeah it was. We knew that they had played last night, and we wanted to jump on them early, and I thought we did that by scoring two quick goals. And like I said, after that, it gave us the energy and then we just respected the game plan. That was the bottom line.

On if the team can repeat tonight’s effort on Saturday against Ottawa…
Yeah, you have to. I think it’s always about the next game, and now it’s all about Ottawa, and being ready for that game.

On if tonight was a reminder of what the Bruins can do when they play their system…
Yeah. I believe in this team. I know how good we are, and what we can be when we’re at our best, and everyone’s chipping in. That’s when we have the most success obviously. So, tonight was a perfect example, and we’ve got to carry that forward.

On if Philadelphia earning a point tonight is a buzzkill…
No, I think right now, it’s all about us, and doing the job Saturday, and not worrying about anyone else. So, that’s what we’re trying to do.

On what Lee Stempniak brings to his line with Brad Marchand…
Yeah, he’s got the experience. He’s always well-positioned, and he makes the smart play on the ice at all times, and definitely, it’s great to have him. He’s got some great speed, and he’s a smart player. So, we try to feed off of him, and we’re trying to talk as much as possible as well.

On who made the decision to not hold morning skate…
It was the coaches’ decision. Just went with it.

On how much it helped to focus with no morning skate today…
Yeah, it’s all about keeping your energy and being focused on the game, and right now that’s what it’s all about. So it was great.

On if the Bruins looked faster because they had the lead or they just played a faster game…
Well, I think scoring early definitely gave us some legs and energy, and we got the momentum right away. But we’ve talked about playing a fast game, and having adequate time to set up into their neutral zone forecheck and whatnot. So, I thought we did a good job of that.

On building off the hot start and finishing chances…
Yeah, definitely, I think it was lacking last game, but yeah, it’s one of those things that’s, you need to have a good start, but you’ve got to carry that forward. And I think we did that tonight, and we needed more than just twenty minutes of hockey, and really a good sixty, just strong sixty minutes, and we got that.

On if there’s frustration that the team didn’t put together more efforts like tonight recently…
Well, right now, we can’t really focus on that. We were focusing on tonight’s game, and now it’s all about Ottawa. So, that’s all we can really think about right now.

On if it feels like the Bruins have been in the playoffs for the last two months…
Yeah, I mean it’s been kind of that, especially the last two to three weeks have been kind of that type of hockey. But it’s fun. That’s why we play the game, and we’ve got to definitely be even better on Saturday.

On what it says about Claude Julien getting this effort out of the team tonight…
Well I mean, I can’t say enough about him. I think he’s always found a way to get us going, no matter what, and at the end of the day it’s up to us also, as players, to be at our best, and tonight was a perfect example. But he’s definitely a great motivator, and always finds a way.

On the power play coming up big…
Yeah, that third goal was huge. We talked about keep pushing, keep going at them, and it’s a big difference between a two or three-nothing game. So, it was definitely a big goal for us, and I thought we were moving the puck well, even before that, except that first power play. But then I thought we definitely need some more of that.

On Torey Krug scoring a goal…
Yeah, he’s been contributing in other ways, and it’s not always about goals. The amount of plays that he opens up with his passing, his vision, makes a big difference.

BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN ZDENO CHARA
On how important it is to bottle tonight’s effort and bring that to the Senators game…
I mean, it’s, again we’re going to be facing the same situation that we faced tonight. You know, we said that before these three games at home that every game is going to be, have to be approached as a must win, and that’s how we have to approach the last game against Ottawa.

On allowing two goals in the last 33 minutes and whether that’s as well as they can play…
Well, I thought we really handled it well. You know, we were really playing with thick layers. Everybody was really skating and simplifying the game and really was not trying to do too much, and that’s how we pretty much were playing really effectively in that stretch of time, so I don’t think we allowed them too much of, at least of scoring chances.

On what it’s like going into the final game knowing they need the two points after everything they have been through since training camp…
That’s what it takes sometimes. I mean, yeah, you know, that’s why you have 82 games, so you can still have a chance at it, and that’s how we’re looking at it, so yeah. We always say, you know, that game number 82 is as important as game number one, so yeah.

On being pretty positive yesterday after practice and whether he got positive vibes when he got to the rink today…
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that’s how we came to the rink – ready to play, energized, positive, really battle up along each other and went out and performed and got results, and we need to do that again our last game.

On what the forwards were doing that allowed the defense to be as tight as they were…
I thought it wasn’t just obviously forwards, but I mean five guys really worked together on the ice. I was saying that we played with thick layers tonight. You know, we were filling lanes, filling each other’s spots. You know, it was a really strong performance and we need to bring that again.

BOSTON BRUINS FORWARD DAVID PASTRNAK…
On how he got free on the play…
It was kind of a set play. I stayed wide and John [Michael Liles] got the pass and he banged it off the wall and I just kept skating and got it on my stick right and then I got a breakaway.

On if it felt good to get the start that they got…
Exactly. Always when you get the first one it’s nice, you know. And it was a really important first period for us and we did well.

On if he had time to try to stay onside on the play before his goal…
Yeah like I said I like when Ds do that thing off the wall, you know. And it’s kind of tough for the defenseman to make a play on that and I was happy I got a breakaway from it.

On if he watches where the blue line is…
Yeah, definitely. This one was tough. I think I left my other leg off the ice and I felt lucky the second leg was still behind the blue.

On if he was nervous waiting for it…
Yeah, definitely. You know like I said it was an important moment for us I think and it was good it was a goal.

On if he had any idea of what he was going to do on that shot…
Exactly. You know breakaway during a game I have a lot more confidence because it just come off the play, you know, and I’m not nervous or anything. I just go and make my move. And you know in the shootout I haven’t scored yet, so I’m pretty sure when I get one it’s going to be good.

DETROIT RED WINGS HEAD COACH JEFF BLASHILL
On if the Bruins jumped on the Red Wings from the start…
Yeah we made a couple of errors there and now you’re down 2-0, so that’s a hard way to start a hockey game being down 2-0 like that.

On being tentative during power play chances…
I think we’ve had a really good mentality on our power play of attacking the net to engage the defenders and getting the pucks in the net with people going to the net, and I thought tonight we stood too much to the outside. We shot pucks, but from the outside with nobody else going to the net, so it wasn’t the same mentality we’ve had as of recently.

On a letdown offensively after the past few games…
Yeah, obviously you get down 2-0 right away that’s a hard thing. We turned too many pucks over here. We can’t turn pucks over and have success.

On his decision to pull Jimmy Howard…
Both. Get Peter [Mrazek] some work and get Jimmy [Howard] some rest.

On the disappointment of allowing two goals at the start of the third…
Yeah, I thought we were still very much in the game going into the third period and you can’t give up a goal right off the bat. So basically what we’ve got to do is – it’s a disappointing loss but it’s a loss, let’s put it behind us and let’s go get ready to win a hockey game Saturday.

On what happened to Justin Abdelkader…
Not sure. He’s being evaluated so I’ll have more information tomorrow.

On the emotional game Wednesday playing into tonight’s game…
I think our guys had a good mindset. I mean, [David] Pastrnak got behind us there in the one – it shouldn’t happen but it happened – then they get a backdoor goal so you’re digging yourself out right away.

On a playoff spot…
We put ourselves in a position yesterday by winning a game to control our own destiny. So let’s go win a hockey game on Saturday.

DETROIT RED WINGS GOALTENDER JIMMY HOWARD
On tonight’s game…
Well, we didn’t get, obviously, the start that we wanted. Playing catch-up hockey is a tough way to play in this league.

On a sense of frustration in the locker room….
No, I don’t think it’s frustration. We know what we’ve got to do. It’s still in our control. We’ve got to go out and win a hockey game here in New York. And we can do it.

On how the team played defensively…
Well, I think it’s just a little bit of everything. Having such an emotional high last night coming off a big victory, we got in relatively late last night and having to get up for another emotional game. It was tough and we just didn’t have our A-game tonight.

On an emotional win last night….
Yeah, last night was crazy but tonight we knew it was going to be another huge game, but coming in here we also knew it was going to be extremely tough. This is always a tough building to play in and they jumped on us from the start and they just kept coming.

On how demoralizing it was to give up two goals in the first three minutes…
It is tough. It is. We knew they were going to clamp down, and they did. They did exactly that.

On if he felt the Red Wings were still in the game at the start of the third….
Yeah, the fourth one seemed to just take the wind right out of our sails. Point shot, deflection, it went on [Lee] Stempniak’s stick. So we’ve just got to be a little bit sharper putting that in a better spot.

On how important it is that the team is in control of their own destiny…
It’s huge. Like I said, we got the character in this room to get the job done and we’ve just got to go out there and play one game, win one game. We know what it’s going to take and I know we can do it.

On if he saw deflections and rebounds in front of him….
Exactly that. Always when we play them they’re going to come to the net hard, you know they’re going to throw pucks in there from all angles, just get in there and try to get deflections and second opportunities. So they did exactly that tonight.

On if there’s a sense of excitement…
Yeah, everything’s out there.  We know what we have to do and now we just have to go out there and execute it.

On if Madison Square Garden is one of his favorite buildings to play…
Yeah it is.

On how the team has been in this position before….
Yeah, we’ve been here before. We’ve had for the last several years it’s come down to the wire getting into the playoffs so the confidence with the older guys is definitely there.

DETROIT RED WINGS FORWARD LUKE GLENDENING
On the emotion in the room following this game…
Yeah, frustrating loss for sure. Not what we had in mind exactly, but we still control our own destiny. We just have to win a game here.

On how tough it was to be chasing the game…
Yeah, it’s tough anytime you’re chasing the game, and especially, you know, like you said, in a back-to-back situation, so we fell behind and couldn’t dig ourselves out of that hole, but, you know, tomorrow’s a new day and Saturday is a new game.

On not having as many pucks on net tonight…
Yeah, you know, I think they were doing a good job of fronting pucks, blocking shots, but for sure we’ve got to get the puck to the net, create some chaos.

On having too many defensive breakdowns and poor coverage…
Yeah, I think a little bit of that. You know, I think we were a little sloppy tonight in comparison to the past couple games we’ve had, so we’ve just got to get back to that in Saturday’s game.

On the emotional letdown…
I don’t know that there’s an emotional letdown, but obviously frustrating to have the result we had, but, you know, I thought there was good energy in the room before the game. I thought good attitude and just…

On controlling their own destiny going into Saturday’s game…
Yeah, for sure. We could be in a much worse situation. I mean, if you said at the beginning of the year you have to win one game to get in, I mean, you would take that every time, so here we are and we’ve got to win a game.

On Jimmy Howard’s performance…
I mean, he’s been good. He had big saves again tonight, you know, redirects, rebounds and nothing really you can do on those.

DETROIT RED WINGS FORWARD BRAD RICHARDS
On whether he thinks their playoff fate came down to one game…
I don’t know if it’s because of one game. We’re… supposed to get ourselves going for a while now. We’ve had to win some games and dig deep. You know, we looked at the schedule probably two or three weeks ago. Figured it might come down to the last game, and that’s… in a way it’s a good thing. You know, you always wish you would have clinched, but we still have a lot to play for and that was a tough turnaround. They were sitting there waiting for us, so, you know, we’ve got to park it and move on already.

On being down early on and having a tight turnaround between games…
Yeah, I mean, you know, they probably really concentrated on a good start and… as did we, but I mean, that’s hockey. When a team sits and waits they’re going to put a lot of pressure on you early, and, you know, we could have maybe scored on the power play to get ourselves in that first period and maybe settled into the game, but it just seems like we chased it most of the night and they just controlled it.

On the power play having an eight-game streak and not scoring the past two games…
I mean, every night’s different. It doesn’t really matter now. It’s… we’re looking forward to, you know, hopefully our power play can score a big goal or two on Saturday. You know, we’ll look at it and learn from it, but it’s a different team Saturday, and they kill different, so we’ll look at that and try to get better but it’s… get back to basics where it’s done during those eight games and we’ll work on it.

On being in control of their own destiny…
Yeah, it’s great because there’s no other thoughts, no other distractions. It’s just our own focus on us and go play hockey. You know, there’s no scoreboard watching or any of that stuff, so we’ll wake up Saturday morning and get right at it. It’s good it’s an early game. We can, you know, no thinking. Just go out and go play.

DETROIT RED WINGS FORWARD HENRIK ZETTERBERG
On chasing the game from the beginning….
Yeah, you’re right. It’s tough when you’ve got down 2-0. Then that didn’t really – even though we got one goal, 3-1, two-goal game, those two in the first shift of the third just cost us the game. I thought overall the first period we outshot them, and I thought we had a pretty good push in the first period, but they were up by two.

On if Jonathan Ericsson scored shorthanded in the first…
You can’t think that way. What happened in the game happened in the game.  Now we’ve got one game left, and we’ve just got to take care of business.

On if he saw old habits creeping up with the power play…
No, but you’re right from the beginning I thought we had some chances but then we were, I think probably a little bit too much overthought stuff instead of just getting pucks to the net, we tried to make one pass too many.

On if the downfall of the game was not building more momentum after the 3-1 score…
Well, when we got that 3-1, sitting here going into the third we knew if we were to score the next goal we had a pretty good chance of turning the game around, because we know we’ve been in that situation ourselves, being up two goals going into the third. But when they scored their fourth one and then they got their fifth one right away, it’s the game.

On how difficult it was coming directly from an emotional game last night…
There’s no excuses. We played 17 back-to-back this year so I think we’re used to this.

On the upside of controlling their own destiny going into Saturday…
Yeah. Obviously you want to win them all going in here, but if we’re realistic there’s teams that are real desperate too and need their points. So we took care of business last night, and unfortunately we couldn’t do it tonight, and we’ve just got to go into Madison [Madison Square Garden] on Saturday.

On what he saw in the first minute of the third period…
It was a bang-bang play. I think it started – we couldn’t really, get the puck out of their own end, then up to their D and shot it, same rebound goal. And the fifth one, I didn’t really see so I can’t comment on it.

BOSTON BRUINS HEAD COACH CLAUDE JULIEN PREGAME AVAILABILITY AT 5:50 PM
On how he hopes the decision not to hold a morning skate will help the team in tonight’s game…
It just gets them rest. I think it’s getting some rest and coming to the rink excited to play and we’ll see where it takes us from there.

On if he feels excitement coming from the team…
Absolutely. I think there’s a reason to be excited and just staying away from negativity and just thinking about positive things is what’s important right now.

On if there are any players who are definitely out for tonight…
The only change is [Max] Talbot going in for [Jimmy] Hayes. Hayes is injured.

On having the advantage over Detroit over the past few seasons and what gives the Bruins the edge…
I’m really not going to tell you what made us better, it’s just we played a good game and played the game that we were supposed to play. There are certain things that we feel that that’s an advantage to us and those are things that we keep internally.

On if adding Max Talbot adds leadership and a voice in the dressing room…
Well, it does, and this time of year you need that kind of experience in your dressing room as well and he’s played well down there. We’ve got some injuries and when it was looked at, he seemed to be the better option for us right now in looking at the options that we had to call guys up. So, he’s a guy that’s been there before; he’s been good in those kind of situations so we hope he can give us a hand here tonight.

On if Brett Connolly and Tyler Randell are unavailable with Max Talbot in for Jimmy Hayes…
I just said – yeah, that’s what it boils down to. Just that one change.

On if the team could be dangerous in the playoffs if they can make it in…
Well, again, we need to go out there tonight and win ourselves a hockey game and that’s how we have to be thinking right now. Knowing that all the different scenarios that could happen that maybe aren’t in our control, you’ve got to control what you can, and for us the really important thing is to win these next two games – starting with tonight – and that’s what we need to focus on. So, like I said, for us it’s getting into our little bubble, staying away from the negativity and trying to be positive here and energetic and going out there and doing the right thing here in order for us to win a hockey game.

On how much he leans on the veteran leaders…
Always do. We always have, just like the team we’re playing tonight. They’ve done that and we have to do the same thing with our core group there that have been champions before and that know how to handle these kind of situations.
