Quite a Night for Campbell

by John Bishop / Boston Bruins
BOSTON -- Center Gregory Campbell scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season and notched his fourth multiple-point game of the season in the Bruins 7-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night in TD Garden.

Campbell's third period shorty capped the B's 7-0 win.
Campbell beat Montreal starting goaltender Carey Price for the B's second goal of the evening at 13:43 of the first and then added a shorthanded, three-on-five goal at 13:35 of the third period against the Habs' backup netminder Alex Auld.

Asked about the shorthanded tally Boston Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien said, "It was really rewarding for the guy that scored it.

"He’s a hard-worker and he’s a dedicated player and I thought he made a great play of cutting that pass off and use his speed to go in there.

"It was a really nice shot right inside the post and so it was a great goal," he said.

The goal sent the already frenetic Garden crowd into overdrive.

Soupy, I think, is one of the more underrated guys in this league to tell you the truth. I don't think he gets enough respect around [hockey]. - Shawn Thornton
"I played playoff games in junior hockey," said Campbell of the playoff atmosphere on Causeway Street. "Unfortunately I had to watch a lot of games the past seven years.

"It was exciting for me and Nathan [Horton] to be involved in a game like this.

"It was the closest we have been to a playoff game," he said.

Campbell (6-foot, 197-pounds) also fought for the 10th time this season when he dropped the gloves with Canadiens defenseman Paul Mara (6-foot-4, 211-pounds) at 19:43 of the second.

"Soupy, I think, is one of the more underrated guys in this league to tell you the truth," said Thornton of his next door neighbor in the B's locker room. "I don’t think he gets enough respect around [hockey].

"Never mind the two goals, he took it upon himself to settle something that happened with [Mark Recchi] and Mara.

"But he’s fearless and I can’t say enough good things about him as a teammate. He’s a great friend, a great teammate and a great stall-mate," he said.

For his part, Campbell sounds like a man who is just enjoying the ride.

"Well these are fun games to play," he said. "We had tremendous support from our fans.

"It was important for us to get off to a good start and just to play. With everything that has been surrounding this game with all the things that don’t involve the actual game, it was important for us to play our game.

"Games like this are fun," repeated Campbell. "We collectively treated it like a playoff game.

"Rightfully so. It had that feel to it. You could tell everyone was ready."
