by Staff Writer / Boston Bruins
Lowell, MA – The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 2-1 in a shootout Saturday evening at the Tsongas Arena.  With the victory and a 3-1 Hartford Wolf Pack loss to the Portland Pirates the P-Bruins have clinched the Eastern Conference Regular Season Championship.  The P-Bruins got their lone goal in regulation from Jeff LoVecchio and their lone goal in the shootout from Brett Skinner.  The 51-16-3-4 Regular Season Eastern Conference Champion P-Bruins are back in action Sunday against the Manchester Monarchs at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center at 4:05 p.m.

The Devils took a 1-0 lead at the 1:20 mark of the opening period.  Jason Ryznar tallied his ninth goal of the season unassisted.  The P-Bruins battled back to tie the game at one at the 5:12 mark, while shorthanded.  LoVecchio caused a turnover in his own end, giving himself a breakaway.   He backhanded the puck through the legs of Lowell net minder Frank Doyle and into the net for his third goal of the season.  The goal was unassisted and the game went into the first intermission tied at one.

After a scoreless second and third period and scoreless overtime the game went into a shootout.  The only player to score in the shootout on either side was Skinner for the P-Bruins as Providence goaltender Jordan Sigalet stopped all five shots he faced.  Providence went on to the 2-1 victory.

Sigalet stopped 30 of 31 shots for the P-Bruins, while Doyle made 41 saves for the Devils.  The P-Bruins went 0-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Regular Season Eastern Conference Champion P-Bruins return to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Sunday, for a Family Game against the Manchester Monarchs at 4:05 p.m.
