BOSTON - The Bruins host the New York Islanders in preseason action on Tuesday night at TD Garden, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. ET (NESN, 98.5 The Sports Hub).
The expected roster hit the ice for a pregame skate, while those not playing practiced in a separate session afterwards.
Captain Zdeno Chara, along with alternate captains Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Chris Kelly are set to suit up, as the Bruins get closer to putting their opening night roster in place.
Jeremy Smith is expected to be the starting goaltender, as he was first off the ice at morning skate, with Niklas Svedberg the other goalie suiting up.
Torey Krug and Reilly Smith practiced with both sessions, as they get their legs and conditioning up to speed. Neither will be playing against the Islanders on Tuesday.
As the competition plays out up front, players like tryout Simon Gagne, Matt Fraser, Jordan Caron, Craig Cunningham and Bobby Robins continue to push for roles, while a surplus of nine defensmen on the back end are trying to prove themselves as well.
While the young players are trying to prove themselvses, the veterans continue to say they need to earn their spots as well. That dynamic should continue into Tuesday night, and the rest of the preseason.
Below is the projected lineup of 22 players.
