LOS ANGELES, CA --
Beyond a two-game win streak (and victories in four of five), on Sunday versus the Anaheim Ducks the Boston Bruins were buoyed by the return of forward Rich Peverley
"No problem at all," said Peverley when asked about his return in the B's 3-2 victory. "I just felt better as the game went on and yeah, no issues."
The versatile forward saw time in every situation and B's Head Coach Claude Julien was extremely pleased with Peverley's effort.
"Well, you saw his creativity," said Julien. "If it wasn’t for the rust, this guy here would have had some points tonight. He was in the right place, he was doing the right things and somehow the puck was rolling off his tick or he’ll bobble it or whatever, and that to me was attributed for not playing for that long.
"But he skated well, I liked his energy, I liked his positioning, everything else he seemed to be really sharp – surprisingly sharper than I would’ve expected him and he handled the ice time well.
"Credit to him to working himself back into the shape and the people that worked with him as well," added Julien.
Peverley, clearly relieved simply to be playing, said he was willing to take whatever ice time he got on Sunday.
"[Coach Julien was] holding me back a few shifts," explained Julien. "But I wanted to play as much as I can and I understand it’s about going forward here, but I felt pretty good."
The forward said that the game versus Anaheim made good sense in terms of his return.
"We had an idea," said Peverley. "If I felt good I had a good chance to play and I think there wasn’t much of a difference between playing today and Tuesday because we’re not skating [Monday].
"So it was good to get my legs under me [Sunday]."
And after the game, Peverley was excited to be back in the fold as the playoffs approach.
"It’s pretty obvious that everybody’s contributing right now and we need that to win," said Peverley. "[Chris] Kelly’s line [with Benoit Pouliot
and Brian Rolston
] is playing really well right now and I think everybody’s confidence is back in terms of winning games, finishing games.
"I think this is a good building block towards the last few games of the season and we have to keep going."
