BOSTON - The National Hockey League announced today, June 5, that Boston Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron has been named the winner of the 2022 Frank J. Selke Trophy, given annually to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game as judged by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

This is the fifth time in his career that Bergeron has won the Selke Trophy, the most ever by a player in NHL history.
This year's win moves him past Hall of Fame forward Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadiens, who had also won the award four times. Bergeron previously won the award in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
This was an NHL-record 11th consecutive season in which Bergeron was named a finalist for the award. It is the most consecutive seasons a player has been named a finalist for an award in NHL history, surpassing Wayne Gretzky's 10-straight seasons as a Hart Trophy finalist.
In 73 games this season, Bergeron posted 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points. The 36-year-old was one of just two players in the NHL to take 1,600 or more faceoffs. Bergeron led the NHL with 991 faceoff wins and also led the league with a 61.9 faceoff win percentage.
Bergeron's play helped lead the way for the Bruins' defense this season, as the team allowed just 2.66 goals per game, the fourth lowest mark in the league.
Bergeron also led the league in shot attempts allowed per 60 (40.4), Corsi For percentage (65.58), expected goals against per 60 (1.56), shot share (67.23), scoring chances against per 60 (18.85), high-danger attempts against per 60 (6.26) and shots for per 60 (48.47).
