P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 3-2 In Overtime

Manchester, NH – The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in overtime Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  The P-Bruins got their goals from T.J. Trevelyan, Wacey Rabbit and Jeff Hoggan.  The P-Bruins currently lead the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semi-Finals 3-0.  The P-Bruins continue the playoffs in Manchester at the Verizon Wireless Arena Monday for Game 4 against the Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. 


The P-Bruins took the 1-0 advantage at the 17:07 mark of the first period.  Hoggan sent the puck around the boards to Matt Hendricks in the right corner.  He passed the puck to the front of the net, where Trevelyan backhanded it into the goal for his first goal of the post-season.  Providence went into the first intermission leading 1-0. 

After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins took a 2-0 advantage at the 9:21 mark of the third period.  Trevelyan worked the puck to Hoggan and he put a shot on net.  Monarchs net minder Jonathan Bernier made the save, but the rebound went to Rabbit and he scored his second goal of the post-season.  Manchester came back with two power play goals to tie the game at two.  At the 10:03 mark, Troy Milam tallied his first goal of the playoffs with Teddy Purcell and Peter Harrold recording the assists.  At the 13:41 mark, Matt Moulson scored his second goal of the playoffs, while Purcell and Milam had the assists.  The game went into overtime tied at two.

In overtime, at the 5:34 mark, the P-Bruins were shorthanded and Hoggan had the puck in the neutral zone.  He carried it down the left wing and behind the net.  He tossed the puck towards the net and it went off of Bernier’s skate and into the goal.  For Hoggan it was his second goal of the post-season as Providence went on to the 3-2 victory.     

Tuukka Rask stopped 33 of 35 shots for the P-Bruins, while Bernier made 31 saves for the Monarchs.  The P-Bruins went 0-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
