After being hit in the face with a Sabres stick yesterday, Marco Sturm was unable to practice.
"(Marco) went to the dentist, now he has to go to the doctor," said Bruins head coach Dave Lewis. "He’s really not feeling that well, so he’s got to get some more tests.
"Right now, he is not making the trip."
It’s certainly tough news for Sturm, and the Bruins, who will most likely need to make a roster move sometime this evening.
"(Providence) is playing tonight, so, after the game were going to make a decision (based) on performance," said Lewis. "(That’s) because they’ve had the week off because of the All-Star break."
"(Sturm) took a whack to the head. His teeth were loose, he had stitches in his facial area and it was quite a blow. I watched it again this morning, a couple of times. It was a pretty severe blow to the face."
Did he get a concussion?
"I think that is what they are checking on," said Coach.
There was no call on the play, Dave, were you surprised?
"You know, I am," said Lewis. "Because I thought you were responsible for your stick.
"But the referee said that it was a follow through (but) I’ve seen other situations where penalties have been called and now, for sure, we’ve lost a player for a game."Tim is inTim Thomas
will start in goal for the Bruins on Saturday. Has played in the last four games after dressing as backup for the previous two contests.
He took the 3-1 loss in Ottawa on Jan. 27, the 6-1 loss vs. NY Rangers on Jan. 29 (when he yielded three goals before being relieved by Hannu Toivonen) and did not figure in the decision in the 7-1 loss in Buffalo on Jan. 30 when he allowed one goal in 20 minutes in relief of Toivonen.
Thomas took the 3-1 loss vs. Buffalo on Feb. 1.
Tim is 6-8-1 in his last 15 starts.Ten Minutes of Penalties = Ten Minutes of Sprints
Our Boys had a very hard practice today.
As a teaching tool, Coach Lewis put the group through various sprints.
"You know what we did (last night)? We ended up with…ten minutes of minor penalties," said Lewis. "So we skated for ten minutes at the end of practice."
"We can’t take penalties like that.
"They are lazy penalties, they take flow and momentum away, and we were trying to get back into the game, and we did it again," he said.
So, coach used practice to speak to his troops.
"There has to be a message in that," said Lewis. "(That) when you do that, there is a price to pay."
"There’s a price to pay, during the game, and a price to pay after the game," said Lewis. Two squads, no lines
With Sturm out, the team was in three colors.
Gold: Axelsson, Bergeron, Mowers, Kessel, Primeau, Donovan
White: Boyes, Savard, Murray, Tenkrat, Chistov
Black: Mara, Chara, Alberts, Allen, York, Stuart and the goalies Thomas, Toivonen
I will update as soon as I can if and when the Bruins call make a call up.
