WILMINGTON, Mass. --
Boston Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien addressed the media this morning and said there was no update on concussed B's forward Patrice Bergeron
and that there wouldn't necessarily be daily updates on the Black & Gold's alternate captain.
"You guys know he’s got a mild concussion, so I don’t think there’s much of a change here," said Julien. "I don’t know that every day is going to be [an update on]] what’s going on with him.
"We hopefully plan on updating you as we see progress here."
But the Bruins head coach has been in contact with his center.
"I’ve texted with him," said Julien. "Obviously, he’s talked to a lot of people.
"We’re hoping for the best here. Number one -- for his sake -- I have always said that when it comes to concussions, you think about the person first and not the player.
"Awe’ll deal with the situation and make the best of it, but there’s no doubt we’d love to have him back, but not until he’s a hundred percent and ready to go," he said.
Julien was able to give an update on injured defenseman Adam McQuaid
"McQuaid should be back for the start of the series," said Julien while talking about the B's defense going into the third round. "Things are looking really good for him."
Things could look even better by the time the B's take the ice against Tampa Bay as both Western Conference series are still active.
Not only will the B's have a chance to get healthy, but the extra preparation time can only help.
"You have more than one option. You can use different players in a different place," said Julien.
"That’s what we are going to looking at. We have time this week to work things out and we’ve got an idea already of what we want to do. But we are...going to work through different things this week, look at it and see how well it fits.
"But we talked about acquiring players this year to give us some depth in case things like that happened,"he said.
That said, it will not be an easy task to take the ice without Bergeron.
"This is an opportunity for our depth to come up and replace a guy, if he is not there, who is extremely valuable for our team," said Julien. "Best faceoff man by far, probably one of the best two-way players in the league.
"So you don’t replace a guy like that easily but as a group you have to do it.
"And I go back to four years ago when we lost him for the year, everybody kind of came together and tried to compensate for that and that’s what we are going to have to do again if he is not with us," he said.
