Boston, MA – NESN, New England’s most watched sports network, will deliver live and exclusive high definition (HD) coverage of up to 73 Boston Bruins games during the 2008-09 season, the network’s 24th season covering Bruins hockey. NESN’s first Bruins broadcast this season will be a pre-season game against the Washington Capitals on Saturday, September 27th at 4:00 PM at TD Banknorth Garden.
“Bruins fans are still buzzing about last year’s performance and the team’s gritty and exciting style of hockey,” said Joel Feld, NESN’s executive vice president of programming and executive producer. “We plan to feed that enthusiasm this season by aggressively expanding our Bruins and NHL content on NESN and NESN.com.”
NESN will drop the puck on the 2008-09 regular season on Saturday, October 11th with live coverage of the Bruins against Minnesota. NESN’s coverage begins with W.B. Mason’s Bruins Face-Off Live at 8:00 PM and will conclude with Bruins Overtime Live, the network’s half-hour post-game show. The Bruins season opener at Colorado will be televised nationally on VERSUS.
The Broadcast Team
Color analyst Andy Brickley will team up with play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards and new rink-side reporter Naoko Funayama to work all 73-NESN broadcasts. In the studio, NESN’s high definition pre and post-game shows and intermission coverage will be hosted by Kathryn Tappen who will be joined by NESN’s team of respected analysts Mike Milbury, Rick Middleton, Barry Pederson, and Gord Kluzak.
The Bricks: Bruins Season Preview Special
Andy Brickley will set the stage for the regular season on Tuesday, October 7th with The Brick’s: 2008-09 Bruins Season Preview, a half-hour special that will look ahead to the coming season, introduce Bruins fans to the team’s off-season acquisitions and make his pre-season predictions about the Bruins and the rest of the NHL.
The Buzz is NESN’s weekly Top 10 countdown of all things Bruins that airs every Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Hosted by Naoko Funayama, The Buzz, will feature a completely new look this season and continue to deliver the best highlights, interviews, sound, plays and more from the week that was throughout the Bruins season.
NESN will launch a new weekly show in December called The Instigators that will feature NESN’s Mike Milbury and two competing analysts who will debate the most news-worthy topics in the NHL. Milbury will serve as the moderator and score how each participant performs on each topic. The winning writer/analyst will then debate Milbury at the end of the show.
