BOSTON - For the first time in almost five months, hockey will be played on Causeway Street as the Bruins return to TD Garden on Tuesday night for their preseason home opener against the New York Rangers.
Several Black & Gold veterans will make their exhibition debuts, including Charlie Coyle, who will center Boston's top line with Trent Frederic and Craig Smith on his wings.

"It will be great. We always look forward to it, coming from a long summer. We just want to get to playing and playing hockey again, playing in front the fans. We're really excited to be back there," said Coyle. "Create some good habits again, play together, see everyone coming back and the work they put in and putting it all together and getting prepare for a good season.
"You want to feel good; you want to feel good every day you're out here during practice, scrimmages, exhibition. That's just my goal, make sure you have those good habits, starts and stops, get out of the summer circling mode."
The trio of Frederic-Coyle-Smith is a familiar one for the B's, as they reunite to form a triumvirate that had some strong success at points during the 2021-22 season.
"I remember last year when I was with St. Louis and we came in here, I thought that was a very effective line as a third line," said coach Jim Montgomery. "They were hard, pushed a lot of what happened in the game when we were 5-on-5. Something I want to look at again because they have chemistry."
Boston's second line against the Blue Shirts will feature Jack Studnicka centering A.J. Greer and Marc McLaughlin. It will be Studnicka's second exhibition audition after landing three shots on goal in 14:35 of ice time on Saturday night in Philadelphia.
"All of them to make it hard on us," Montomgery said when asked what he's looking for from that group. "They're vying for positions on the team and they're gonna be getting more minutes tonight than they would usually get as a fourth-line Bruin. They've got to impress; they've got to have an impact on the game.
"It's gonna be hard [to choose the fourth line]. And that's a good situation to be in. We have really good depth, and we have a lot of players that are vying for positions on the team."
