My Summer Vacation

by Andrew Alberts / Boston Bruins
In what should be a more-than-occasional feature this season on, B's defenseman Andrew Alberts weighed in on his summer -- from a Roman Holiday to the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Look for more entries from Andrew in the very near future!

The season's almost here!
Hey everyone...

Sorry about not getting to this sooner.

As you might have guessed, the last 3 months have been extremely busy for me, both on the ice and off -- my summer was full of World Championships, workouts, weddings, golfing, boating and a move.

My workouts…
First off, for all of you who wondered what kind of workouts I had going, my off-ice training sessions consisted of leg workouts three days a week, and upper body workouts twice.

Monday and Friday leg workouts would consist, mainly, of a whole bunch of weighted jumps.

Those jumps were both one-legged and two-legged and of course there were one-legged squats, as well as two-legged squats. Oh, and I almost forgot Russian box and slide board sets.

Wednesday workouts were all plyometrics with no weights. That means there were lots of jumps, sprints, box jumps and footwork.

Tuedays and Thursdays consisted of all upper body training.

My schedule…
A typical day for me would be to wake up at 7:45 have a good breakfast:  a couple eggs or an omelet with ham, cheese and peppers, maybe a banana or some strawberries and some milk or orange juice.

I would get to the gym by 9 a.m. Then I would warm up and get into my lifting with a couple
of buddies.  We typically lift for 1-2 hrs, depending on the day.

I also take a protein shake with carbohydrates and stuff within 20 min of the end of my workout to help replenish my body with nutrients and help build more muscle mass.

Fun time…
In the afternoons, if I were not busy reacquainting with friends or family, I would either go out on the boat with some friends and lounge around, or go and play a round of golf.

The (Second) Big Trip…
You all know about the World Championships in Russia, but this is summer I was also able to take a trip to Rome, Italy to be in my cousin's wedding.

My cousin (Mike) and his wife (Leah) had met in Rome while studying abroad and thus chose to have the wedding there. So I went over with my girlfriend Brooke and we were able to stay for six days and five nights.

As you can see from some of the pictures, the weather was outstanding and we had a great time.

Brook and I took tours of the Coliseum, the Catacombs; saw the Spanish steps and parts of
the Vatican. And the wedding itself was held right outside downtown Rome in St. Ingatios Church.

I recommend taking a trip to Rome to anyone who has the chance.

Anyway, back to the rink. Thanks for reading and don't forget to check out the pictures below.

As you might remember, I tried the local headgear in Moscow when I was playing in the World Championship.

Tourists! My girlfriend Brooke and I at the Coliseum in Rome.

With the bride and groom. This was at the wedding reception just outside of Rome. That's my friend Kurt, Me, Mike (groom), Leah (bride) and Brooke.
