BOSTON, MA –
Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has assigned Brad Marchand
to the Providence Bruins and placed Trent Whitfield
on waivers for purpose of assignment to Providence.
Marchand has played in 12 of the team’s last 14 games and registered 0-1-1 totals on the year. Before being recalled on October 18, Marchand had led the P-Bruins in goals and was third overall in the team’s scoring race with 6-2-8 totals. Marchand was originally drafted by the Bruins in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Whitfield has skated in seven games this season for Boston and has not dressed for the team’s last four. He was recalled October 21 from Providence where he had 3-5-8 totals in six AHL games. Whitfield is in his 12th pro season and his first in the Bruins organization, although he was drafted by the B’s in the fifth round (100th overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
