Lucky Fan Will Win No.1 B's License Plate

by Anthony Gulizia / Boston Bruins
BOSTON, MA – One lucky Boston Bruins fan will have the opportunity to win the inaugural plate of the  ‘Invest in Youth Hockey’ Bruins license plate series featuring the Bruins current logo (the former plate included the retro Bruins logo.)

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles will kick-off the raffle for the plate – which will run from March 27 until May 4 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased atwww.bruinsraffles.org starting at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 27.

“This is a very lucky opportunity for the Registry of Motor Vehicles and Mass DOT and state government to be a part of charitable measures,” Massachusetts Registrar of Motor Vehicles Rachel Kaprielian. “We have 18 specialty plates within the Registry of Motor Vehicles – the Bruins hockey plate being one – and it is a great opportunity when we see the charities able to raise money for themselves and expand their wonderful program.

“Boston is a sports town, a hockey town, but it’s also a town of inclusion, and what this place can do is include all sorts of people in all walks of life to the great sport of hockey.”

The license plate, featuring the Bruins Spoked-B logo, has raised almost $1 million for Mass Hockey initiatives.

“I just want to give a special shout out to Joe Curnane, who initiated this program in 2003,” Boston Bruins Foundation Executive Director Bob Sweeney said. “It was a great initiative, on behalf of Joe and the Bruins and particular to benefit Mass. Hockey.

“To date, this program has raised just under a million dollars, which is unbelievable. It goes to support different programs, which help individuals in youth hockey programs support their new initiative.”

The plates cost $40, of which $28 of the purchase price will go directly to Massachusetts Hockey, Inc., a non-profit affiliate of USA Hockey. The remaining $12 is a one-time only cost to cover manufacturing expenses. Upon renewal of the plates, the entire $40 will go to Mass Hockey (this is in addition to the standard $36 registration fee due at renewal).

Bruins fans can purchase a Boston Bruins "Invest in Youth Hockey" license plate at all full-service Registry branches or online by www.bostonbruins.com.

“On behalf of Mass. Hockey, we want to recognize the Mass DOT, the RMV, and especially the Boston Bruins Foundation for all the contributions that are able to be made to help grow the game of hockey,” Executive Director of Mass Hockey Kevin Kavanagh said.

“The Bruins success over the last year especially is a great opportunity to help grow the game and the revenue from the license plate going to grow the game of hockey is phenomenal, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
